Cards AFL Preview – Part Three - Hitters

Cardinals Special Assistant to the General Manager, Senior Director of Professional Scouting Bruce Manno sets the stage for three Cardinals position players competing in Arizona this fall in the third of three exclusive audio interviews.

Coaches and players reported to training camps Tuesday and Wednesday in preparation for this year's Arizona Fall League (AFL), MLB's premier prospect showcase. Workouts begin Thursday in preparation for the start of the League's 15th season on Tuesday, October 10.

This year, a group of seven top Cardinals prospects will compete as members of the Peoria Saguaros, teamed with players from the San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and Washington Nationals organizations. There are five other clubs in the League, each with players drawn from five MLB organizations, with all teams located in the Phoenix area.

Each organization will be sending seven players to the AFL this year, with the Cardinals' group consisting of four pitchers, an infielder and two outfielders, all from the Springfield Cardinals (Double-A).

The three position players from the Cardinals' organization are shortstop Brendan Ryan and outfielders Amaury Marti and Nick Stavinoha.

In this final installment of the three-part series, Special Assistant to the General Manager, Senior Director of Professional Scouting Bruce Manno explains which of the three is the Cardinals' designated "priority player" and what that means.

Manno then offers scouting reports on each player as well as what parts of their game still need tuning. The interview concludes with a look inside what the front office is working on this fall.
