On to the game…
Cards first – Down in order
Three up and three down, including a strikeout of Pujols.
Tigers first – Out of top
Craig Monroe doubled to left with one out. After Magglio Ordonez walked with two out, Carlos Guillen collected the RBI on a single. Belliard made a nice play to avoid further damage. Tigers 1-0.
Cards second – Tied quickly
Scott Rolen homered to left with one down. Tie 1-1.
Tigers second – Nada
Sean Casey fanned on the way to a 1-2-3 inning.
Cards third – Big frame
New hitting star Yadi Molina singled and moved into scoring position on a ground out. Chris Duncan stroked a two-out RBI double into the right field corner. Albert Pujols' two-run home run the other way to right put the exclamation point on a great inning. Why the Tigers pitched to him with first base open will be a question asked to Jim Leyland over and over. Cards 4-1.
Tigers third – Three up and down
It was important for Reyes to put up a quick zero. He passed the test with flying colors.
Cards fourth – Triple K
Rolen, Belliard and Molina fanned. Encarnacion walked in between.
Tigers fourth – Another perfecto
Reyes put up another perfect inning.
Cards fifth – Another K
Duncan fanned to end a 1-2-3 inning.
Cards sixth – Getting help
Pujols walked and took third on Verlander's throwing error as his pickoff attempt went very badly. He scored on Edmonds' single as the throw home was wide. Rolen shot a ground rule double into the right field corner. Encarnacion's fielders' choice scored Edmonds as Inge committed a fielding error and a throwing error, allowing Rolen to come home after the two collided between third and home. It was called interference. Cards 7-1.
Tigers sixth – Another stopper
Three more down.
Cards seventh – In order
Duncan fanned again for the second out of a 1-2-3 inning.
Tigers seventh – In control
Guillen singled with one out to end Reyes' streak at 17.
Cards eighth – That's ok
Edmonds singled with one out. He was erased on a fielders' choice. Nothing else happened.
Tigers eighth – Back to perfect
Reyes retired three more.
Tigers ninth – Solo shot
Monroe homered to left leading off. Braden Looper finished up. Cards 7-2.
