MLB.com buried the information in a press release while the P-D's level of interest seemed to be limited to a message board post that was widely copied on Cardinals-themed forums around the ‘net.
These signings weren't news to Scout.com subscribers, who knew days ago, and in some cases, over two months ago, that these players were already in house.
In fact, our announcements weren't just a laundry list of semi-anonymous names. We provided in-depth background, photos and scouting reports on every one of the twelve new Cardinals. That is business-as-usual for us at stlcardinals.scout.com.
Here is when we reported the signings:
(October 12 - Exclusive Matt Hirsh interview)
In other non-news, MLB.com's most recent Winter Ball Update covered just five players. On the other hand, our report includes 15 Cardinals, with a follow-on Liga Paralela update that mentions 21 more players competing in Winter Ball in Venezuela.
We were the first, and in some cases, the only source to report news such as Yadier Molina playing in Puerto Rico this winter, Reid Gorecki being removed from the 40-man roster and much more. If you care that top prospect Colby Rasmus has already gained 20 pounds this winter, this is where you would have learned it – directly from Rasmus himself.
I could go on, but I hope you get the idea by now. Bottom line, do you want to get your Cardinals minor league news first or as someone else's afterthought weeks or even months later?
