Encarnacion Is In The Dugout

The Cardinals are expected to make a decision to activate OF Juan Encarnacion from the DL list today or tomorrow.

St. Louis Cardinals' outfielder Juan Encarnacion finished his 20-day rehab assignment Friday night, hitting just .155 (9-58) in his 15 games as a member of the Springfield Cardinals. His rehab assignment behind him, Encarnacion has joined the St. Louis Cardinals and was in the dugout for Saturday's game against the San Diego Padres.

The Cardinals will have to make a decision as to when they will activate him, it could be as early as Sunday morning or the club could wait until Monday when St. Louis heads to Los Angeles for a series against the Dodgers.

Encarnacion had surgery in December to repair a ligament in his left wrist and has missed all of 2007 thus-far.

Considered the everyday outfielder before the season started, Encarnacion will be trying to work his way back in the regular lineup when he returns.

The Cardinals will have to make a roster move to make room for Encarnacion, which means OF Ryan Ludwick will likely return to Memphis, or it is possible OF Skip Schumaker could be sent down.

A member of last year's World Series Championship team, Encarnacion hit .278 with 19 homers and 79 RBIs in 153 games, his first with the Cards.
