Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A): Winners over Nashville 8-5

A three run homer by 3B John Nelson propelled the Redbirds past the Sounds 8-5 Wednesday night.

2B Edgar Gonzalez has a 3-for-5 night to include coming around and scoring twice.

Andy Cavazos (W, 1-2) pitched a scoreless eighth with one hit and a strikeout for his first win this season. Closer Brian Falkenborg allowed one hit and fanned two in the ninth to earn his 11th save. Starter Troy Cate allowed three runs on six hits over five innings.

Springfield Cardinals (Double-A):

CF Colby Rasmus lifted a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to lead the visiting Springfield Cardinals past San Antonio, 3-2, on Wednesday night.

LF Cody Haerther lined a leadoff double to start the 10th and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by SS Tyler Greene. Rasmus, who was 1-for-2 with three walks, sent a fly ball to right to give the Cardinals the lead for good.

Closer Christopher Perez (W, 2-0) struck out five in two scoreless innings to pick up his second win on the season. Starter Eric Haberer went five-plus innings and allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four.

Relievers Michael Cooper pitched around two walks in 1.2 innings and Jason Motte struck out three over 1.2 innings for the Cardinals.

Palm Beach Cardinals (High-A): Lost to Fort Myers 3-1

Cardinals starter Adam Daniels (L, 2-5) lost his fifth game of the season after he surrendered three runs, two earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings.

Palm Beach avoided a shutout, scoring its run in the eighth. Nathan Southard led off with a double and took third when right fielder Dwayne White misplayed the ball. Garcia followed with a groundout to score Southard.

Swing of Quad Cities (A): Defeated South Bend 6-2

LF Mark Shorey and SS/2B Christian Lopez had two RBI Wednesday afternoon as Quad Cities defeated visiting South Bend, 6-2.

Swing starter Tyler Herron (W, 3-4) earned his third win, allowing two runs on three hits over a season-high 5 2/3 innings. The 20-year-old right-hander yielded just one hit in the first five innings but ran into trouble in the sixth. Armando Carrasco gave up Sanchez's single before striking out Steve Mena to end the sixth. Brad Furnish followed with three scoreless innings and picked up his first save of the season for the Swing

Season opens on Tuesday June 19th, against the Auburn Doubledays.

 

Johnson City Cardinals (R)

The Cardinals will open the season on the road in Greenville on Tuesday, June 19th.

Season starts on Wednesday, June 20th.
