The Cardinals Minor League Notebook 05/26

The former Minor League Player of the Year, Travis Hanson the Memphis Redbirds' third baseman went 2-for-4 Friday and hit his second home run on the season.

Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A): Lost to Round Rock 8-2

Memphis starter Randy Keisler (L, 2-3) was rocked for eight runs on 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings. He fanned four and walked two as his record fell below the .500 mark at 2-3.

What little offense the Redbirds could generate came from LF Nick Stavinoha who went 3-for-4 with an RBI and 3B Travis Hanson was 2-for-4 with a solo homer in the seventh.

Springfield Cardinals (Double-A): Lost to Corpus Christi 4-1

It was a one-to-one game from the second inning, but Corpus Christi added three runs to the board in the eighth inning off of reliever Jason Motte the former catcher turn pitcher to defeat the Cardinals 4-1 Friday night.

Cardinal's starter Cory Rauschenberger gave up just one run on three hits over a season-high seven innings. He struck out four and lowered his ERA to 6.02, after his best performance of the season. Motte (L, 0-1) was charged with three runs on one hit and five walks while recording just one out, was tagged with his first lost, after his worst outing this year.

1B Joe Mather was 2-for-4 with a double and a run score and that's about it for the offense Friday.

Palm Beach Cardinals (High-A): Lost 5-0 to Lakeland

Palm Beach scattered seven hits in Friday night's contest, none of them for extra bases and no one crossing home plate, earned or otherwise as the Cardinals are shut out by the Lakeland Flying Tigers 5-0.

Cardinal's starter Trey Hearne (L, 3-4) took the loss, allowing five runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out four and walked four in his fourth loss of the season.

RF Nathan Southard had two of the Cardinals seven hits.

Swing of Quad Cities (A): Lost 5-2 to Beloit

Quad Cities found themselves in a hole too deep to dig out of Friday night when the Beloit Snappers scored four runs in the bottom of the first off of starter Blake King.

DH Brandon Buckman and CF James Rapoport both went 2-for-4 and scored a run each in the losing cause. Buckman's .350 batting average leads the club.

Season opens on Tuesday June 19th, against the Auburn Doubledays.

 

Johnson City Cardinals (R)

The Cardinals will open the season on the road in Greenville on Tuesday, June 19th.

 

Gulf Coast League Cardinals (R)

The Cardinals will open their season on Wednesday, June 20th.

Springfield's starter Cory Rauschenberger dominated on Friday night in Corpus Christi, but had to settle for a no-decision in the Cardinals 4-1 loss.

Memphis third baseman Travis Hanson went 2-for-4 Friday night to include his second home run of the season.
