Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A): Winners 5-4 over Iowa Cubs

The Redbirds use the long ball with Tagg Bozied, Ryan Christianson, Edgar Gonzalez and Skip Schumaker all going deep for Memphis Sunday to beat the Cubs 5-4.

Starter Mike Smith evened his record at 6-6 with the win, scattering seven hits over six innings giving up only two runs.

Brian Falkenborg picked up his 16th save, giving up one run on one hit in his one inning on the mound.

Springfield Cardinals (Double-A): Lost 6-1 to Arkansas

The Springfield Cardinals saw their longest winning streak in team history come to an end on Sunday at eight games as the Travelers hand them a 6-1 loss.

Starter Jaime Garcia (L, 3-6) gave up three runs on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 5.2 innings to take the loss.

1B Mike Ferris hit is third home run of the season to account for the only run for the Cardinals on Sunday.

CF Colby Rasmus who went 0-3 on the day, had an outfield assist, throwing a runner out at home.

Palm Beach Cardinals (High-A): FSL All-Star Break

It was the East All-Stars 8, the West 4 Saturday with the Cardinals playing key roles in the victory.

Third baseman Allen Craig was named the All-Star Game MVP, while Luke Gregerson was the Pitcher of the Game and Tyler Norrick picked up the win for the East All-Stars.

Swing of Quad Cities (A): Winners 6-2 over Beloit

The Swing beat the Western Division leader and first half champions the Beloit Snappers with a 6-2 win on Sunday.

The tandem starters gave the bullpen the day off on Fathers day, with P.J. Walters (W, 6-1) picking up his sixth win, pitching five complete innings, striking out six batters, giving up only three hits and two runs, one of them earned.

Elvis Hernandez earned a save pitching four scoreless innings, giving up only one run before he left the building.

LF Christian Lopez went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored an RBI and a walk to lead Quad Cities to a big win.

The Cardinals will open their season on Wednesday, June 20th.

 

VSL Cardinals (R) Winners 7-6 over the Pirates

The Cardinals pounded out 15 hits on Sunday and needed them all to beat the Pirates 7-6.

With a 6-0 shutout going into the eighth inning, the Cardinals allowed six Pirate runners to score to tie the game. The Redbirds came back and scored in the bottom of the ninth for the win.

The Cardinals scored five runs but left 10 runners stranded Sunday to fall to the Phillies 8-5.

Minor League Pitcher of the Day

Elvis Hernandez pitched four scoreless almost perfect innings Sunday, giving up only one hit, not walking anyone and striking out four batters as the Quad Cities piggyback starter earned his first save of the season and preserved the Fathers Day win for the Swing.
