St. Louis Cardinals' Rick Ankiel connects for a single in the third inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers in their baseball game Saturday, in St. Louis. Ankiel hit two home runs and scored a third run as the Cardinals beat the Dodgers 6-1.

Rick Ankiel continued to make presence felt Saturday with a pair of home runs to lead the Cardinals past the Dodgers 6-1.

In his just his third game since being called up from Triple-A Memphis, Ankiel has hit three home runs with six RBI, four run scores, while hitting .417 (5-for-12).

Starter Braden Looper pitched in with six strong inning to pick up his 10th win on the season.

It was the third consecutive quality start for St. Louis starters and Cardinals starters have given up earned runs in two of their past 36 innings and have combined for a 2.76 ERA in their past 10 games.

NOTES AND QUOTES:

Just 11 players in Major League history hit their first home run as a pitcher, then later homered as a position player...Ankiel becomes the 12th and the first since 1947. right.

While Ankiel bids to become a regular contributor at a position, according to Elias research, the last players to make their Major League debuts as a pitcher and then have significant playing time as a position player are Bobby Darwin and Willie Smith. Darwin played from 1962-77 and Smith from 1963-71.

Jason Isringhausen has been solid out of the pen this season, earning 22 saves in 24 chances...his 1.71 ERA is 1st among Cards relievers as he has been scored upon in just seven of his 45 outings...six times he has pitched over 1.0 inning and has been used in 21 games this season that were not save situations...he has 271 career saves and is 25th on baseball's all-time saves list.
