Palm Beach Cardinals' second basemen, Dan Nelson, went 5-for-5 Friday night, with a double, an RBI and a run scored, in what would have been a perfect night, if his team hadn't lost 11-2.

Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A): Winners 4-3 over Nashville

Mike Maroth (W, 1-0) pitched 2.2 shutout innings of relief Friday night to pick up the 4-3 win over the Nashville Sounds.

Starter Mark Mulder, who is rehabbing a left shoulder injury, allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks over five innings.

Left-fielder Nick Stavinoha went 2-for-4 on the night with an RBI and a run scored to lead the offense.

Springfield Cardinals (Double-A): Lost to Wichita 2-0

The Cardinals were shutout by the Wichita Wranglers Friday, 2-0. Starter P.J. Walters (L, 3-4) gave up two runs on four hits while striking out six and walking four in 7.1 innings to take the loss.

Quad Cities failed to clinch a playoff berth for the third night in a row, losing to Peoria 7-5, Friday night.

Starter Tyler Herron (L, 10-7) allowed five runs, four earned on seven hits and a walk while striking out one in three innings to see his record fall to 10-7.

Left-fielder Tyler Henley hit his second home run for Quad Cities, a solo shot eighth in a comeback bid that fell short.
