Reinforcements Arrive in St. Louis

Skip Schumaker hit .306, 7HR, 31RBI for Memphis this season at Triple-A. In his last 10 games he was hitting at a .378 clip.

The Cardinals today purchased the contract of infielder Miguel Cairo from Memphis and recalled outfielder Skip Schumaker and relievers Andy Cavazos and Kelvin Jimenez.

In addition, Mike Maroth was recalled from his rehabilitation assignment and activated from the disabled list.

Memphis catcher Brian Esposito was designated for assignment.

The new additions to the team will see some playing time as the Cardinals entered a stretch Tuesday in which they have 35 games to play in the final 34 days of the season without a day off.

If they play all 34 days without a break, it will be a Major League record for consecutive days to end a season, according to Elias research
