Springfield Cardinals third baseman Rico Washington's season came to an end after he collided with left-fielder Amaury Marti in the seventh inning in Saturday night's game and suffered a broken bone in his left cheek.

Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A): Lost to Nashville 8-5

Starter Brad Thompson allowed four hits and struck out one over five shutout innings in his second start for Redbirds since being assigned to Memphis by St. Louis. Reliever Mike Venafro (L, 0-1) gave up two runs on two hits and a walk and was tagged with the loss.

Springfield Cardinals (Double-A): Lost to Arkansas 7-4

Starter Eric Haberer (L, 13-8) gave up six runs on seven hits and four walks with three strikeouts over 4.1 innings and suffered his eighth loss on the season.

Right-fielder Reid Gorecki went 3-for-5 with an RBI and 3B Rico Washington hit his fourth home run, a two-run shot in the first inning.

INJURY: Third baseman Rico Washington collided with left-fielder Amaury Marti in the seventh inning and suffered a broken bone in his left cheek. Washington's injury will keep him out of the playoffs.

Starter Tyler Norrick pitched well Saturday, giving up two runs while scattering nine hits and a walk while striking out eight over six innings. Reliever Jon Mikrut was tagged with the loss giving up the winning run to the Hammerheads.

Left-fielder Nathan Southard went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, while 1B A.J. Van Slyke had two doubles and a walk.

Swing of Quad Cities (A): Swept by Beloit in a Double-Header

The Swing had two chances yesterday to clinch a playoff spot and failed both times losing to Beloit, 6-4 & 6-3 as they suffered their fifth straight loss. The five game losing streak is the longest one for Quad Cities this season.

Tony Cruz went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a home run and two RBI in game one. In game two he went 2-for-3 again with a walk and another RBI.
