The Cardinals Minor League Notebook 09/08

First baseman Mark Hamilton set a Springfield Cardinals franchise record Friday night, hitting three home runs and driving in seven to lead his team past the Tulsa Drillers by the score of 16-8. With the win the Cardinals advance to the Texas League Championship Series which will begin next Tuesday in San Antonio.

Springfield Cardinals (Double-A): Winners 16-8 over Tulsa

The Cardinals racked out 21 hits on the night scoring 16 runs to double-up on Tulsa 16-8 to sweep the Drillers in three straight games of the best-of-five series. The win gives Springfield a berth in the best-of-5 Texas League Championship Series against San Antonio, beginning Tuesday.

First baseman Mark Hamilton went 4-for-6 with three home runs and seven RBI to lead the offense. Bryan Anderson, Cody Haerther and Jose Martinez also had four hits each, driving in a combine eight more runs for the Cardinals.

Reliever Chris Russ picked up the win pitching 1.1 innings in relief of starter Eric Haberer who gave up the first three runs to Tulsa over 3.2 innings pitched.

Batavia Muckdogs (SS) Winners 5-2 over Williamsport

The Batavia Muckdogs finished their season on a winning note Friday, beating the Williamsport Crosscutters 5-2.

Outfielder Collin Fanning went 2-for-4 and knocked in three runs to lead Batavia past Williamsport. First baseman Andrew Brown went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, an RBI, and a run scored to cap the scoring.

Starter Jon Stambaugh pitched four effective innings, scattering six hits and a walk while striking out four, but did not factor into the decision. Reliever Brandon Garner picked up the final win on the season, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up a run before turning the game over to Justin Fiske who pitched the final 2.1 scoreless innings for his second save.
