The Cardinals and Missions hooked up 12 times during the regular season, as Springfield split the season-series, going 6-6. The Cards went 4-2 against the Missions in the first half, but just 2-4 in the second half. The Redbirds went 3-3 at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium and 3-3 at Hammons Field.

The Springfield Cardinals and San Antonio Missions both swept their respective opponents in the opening round of the Texas League Playoffs.

Springfield took two straight at home before finishing off Tulsa on the road. San Antonio won a pair in Frisco, before coming home to blank the RoughRiders in the seriesclincher.

The Cards are currently enjoying their first trip to the postseason and are looking for their first league title in history. The San Antonio Mission won back-to-back Texas League Championships in 2002 and 2003, but haven't been to the finals since. Last year, the Corpus Christi Hooks won the Texas League Championship Series, their first title in just their second year of existence. The Hooks defeated the Wichita Wranglers three games to one.

The Cardinals will return to Hammons Field on Friday night for game three of the TLCS. P.J. Walters (0-0) will make his second postseason appearance for Springfield, taking the ball on in game three. San Antonio will counter with lefty Wade Leblanc (1-0).

Game time on Friday night is 7:10pm and gates open at 6:10pm.

The Cards will also be home on Saturday for game four of the TLCS. Game time for Saturday's game is 6:10pm. If the series goes five games, Hammons Field will host a winner-take-all game on Sunday at 2:10pm.
