Missions Win Texas League Championship Series

Springfield Cardinals' outfielder Cody Haerther hit an amazing .467 in the playoffs, but it was the San Antonio Missions who claimed their first Texas League crown since 2003, winning the best-of-five series three games to one with an 11-7 victory over the Double-A Cardinals Saturday.

San Antonio starting pitcher Mike Ekstrom carried a no-hitter Cardinals into the seventh inning, after being spotted with an early lead, as the Missions got three in the first and four more in the second.

Cardinals' starter Adam Daniels lasted only one and a third inning, giving up seven runs, six earned, on five hits, striking out two and walking two.

In the seventh frame, third baseman Allen Craig lined a pitch up the middle for the first Springfield hit of the game. Mark Hamilton followed with an opposite-field single, putting runners at first and second with two outs. Eckstrom pitched out of his only jam though, getting Casey Rowlett to foul out to cap his seven-inning shut-out performance.

Springfield batted around in the ninth. Amaury Marti smacked a two-run blast, his first of the postseason, to ignite a seven-run ninth for the Cardinals. Pinch-hitter Mark Shorey added an RBI double as Springfield scored all of their seven runs in the 11-7 loss.

Outfielder Cody Haerther went 1-for-5 Saturday with a run scored, finishing the postseason hitting .476. The St. Louis Cardinals top prospect, Colby Rasmus went 0-for-5 with an RBI in Springfield's final game of the year.
