Pomeranz Returns to the Arizona Fall League

In Arizona Fall League action, right-handed pitcher Stuart Pomeranz had a solid 2007 debut.

On Saturday night, St. Louis Cardinals' prospect Stuart Pomeranz made his 2007 AFL debut, getting the start for the Mesa Solar Sox. He allowed only one hit in two shutout innings. Pomeranz threw 32 pitches, 23 for strikes, on his way to three strikeouts and the victory. Joe Mather went 0-for-4 appearing once again as the designated hitter.

Friday's action saw Mather remaining in the DH spot. Mather had another nice game with two hits, a walk, and a run scored. Mark Hamilton went hitless in four at bats including a strikeout. Kyle McClellan pitched two-thirds of an inning, and was charged with a blown save. McClellan gave up a hit that allowed Chris Petit, who had been walked by Jason Motte, to score. Motte pitched an inning and a third, walking one and allowing one hit.

In 1.2 innings, McClellan has yet to give up a run. Motte's ERA is now 3.86 in 2.1 innings of work.

Mather is currently hitting .278 with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. It is still early but Mather does not have an extra base hit in 18 at bats. Jarrett Hoffpauir is 3-for-6 in the early going. Mark Hamilton is 0-for-5.

Sunday is an off day for the Arizona Fall League with action resuming on Monday.
