Team USA Interviews: Closer Chris Perez

Memphis Redbirds closer Chris Perez on his 2007 season, his stint with Team USA and the future.

Chris Perez, 22, starred for the Double-A Springfield Cardinals in 2007 before finishing the season with the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds, collecting a total of 35 saves between the two stops. The right-hander had been selected by the Cardinals in the supplemental first round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Miami.

Perez is considered the top relief prospect in the Cardinals system, their "closer of the future", and should compete for a Major League roster spot coming out of spring training. Along with outfielder Colby Rasmus and catcher Bryan Anderson, Perez was named to compete for Team USA this fall.

In this exclusive interview, granted the day before his team left for the IBAF Tournament in Taiwan, Perez discusses his 2007 season, his stint with Team USA and what his future may hold.

Come back here to for ten more exclusive Cardinals interviews straight from Team USA and the Arizona Fall League, including Rasmus, Anderson, Mark Riggins, Jarrett Hoffpauir, Mitchell Boggs, Jason Motte, Mark Hamilton, Luke Gregerson, Stuart Pomeranz and Amaury Marti.
