Following his work as a rover during the regular season and duties at the St. Louis Cardinals' Winter Instructional League, minor league pitching coordinator Mark Riggins didn't yet unpack his bags for the winter.

Since last month, Riggins has been serving as pitching coach for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League under manager Dave Clark from the Houston Astros organization. There, he is leading a staff with prospects from six organizations, including four of his own charges – Stuart Pomeranz, Mitchell Boggs, Jason Motte and Luke Gregerson.

Riggins has just completed his 12th season as the organization's minor league pitching coordinator and 29th year overall with the Cardinals as a player and coach. He pitched in the system for five seasons starting in 1979 before his coaching career began in Johnson City. Since then, Riggins has taught at all virtually levels of the organization, including a stint as the Cards' major league pitching coach under Joe Torre.

In this exclusive interview, Riggins discusses the AFL and what he is seeing from his Cardinals pitching prospects.
