Looking at the numbers put up by St. Louis Cardinals prospects in winter ball action on Saturday, January 12.

Mexican Pacific League


Hugo Castellanos (Memphis) pitched 1 inning of relief, giving up no hits or runs and 1 HBP. (ground out-fly-out: 3-0)

Obregon is in the semifinals of the Mexican League Playoffs as is Mazatlan. Obregon leads the series 1-0 over CuliacanMazatlan is down 1-0 to Mochis.  Playoffs are set up in brackets. Best of seven winners advance to the finals.



Venezuelan League


Cesar Izturis (St. Louis) 2-for-6 with 1 triple, 2 runs, and 1 strike out.

Rico Washington (Springfield) 0-for-2 with 1 run, 1 walk, and 2 strike outs.


Caribes lost 10-5:  link


Playoffs are set up where everyone plays everyone in a ten-game round robin format. The top two teams then play a nine-game championship series.



Dominican League


Kelvin Jimenez (St. Louis) pitched 3.1 innings of relief, giving up no hits or runs and striking out 2. (g/o-f/o: 3-5) (inherited runners-scored: 3-0)


D'Angelo Jimenez (Memphis) 0-for-3 with 1 strike out.


Licey beat Estrellas 3-2:  link


The top four teams are competing in a nine-game round-robin tourney. As the host nation for this year's Caribbean Series, the top two teams will advance, facing the champs from Mexico and Venezuela.



Colombian League


Donovan Solano (Palm Beach) 2-for-4 with 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run, and 1 walk.

The seven-game finals between the top two finishers begin Tuesday, January 15. Colombia does not participate in the Caribbean Series.



Nicaraguan League


Luke Gorsett (Palm Beach) tied for first in home runs (6) and tied for fifth in RBIs (25) for the league.


Amaury Marti (Springfield) tied for third in home runs (5).
