The Venezuelan Summer League Cardinals started their season off in the first three games with a 0-2-1 record, as they were outscored 23 to 10, with one of those games being a tie. Since then, the team has gone 3-1 and kept up well with the competition, until Monday when they blew out the VSL Rays squad.
Infielder Gerardo Mannbel is leading the squad with ten hits and two stolen bases along with his .370 average. On May 13th, he had a four hit game (doubled, homered, and collected three RBIs) and has three multi-hit games on the season. The just-turned 18-year-old has played at second base, shortstop and third.
Infielder Carlos Yegues collected two doubles (team leading) in a 3-for-5 game on May 15th and is currently ihitting .375 in limited action (eight at-bats).
David Brito has made three relief appearances and has shut down the competition allowing only four hits, no runs, one walk, and striking out five in 11 innings. He currently has a 2-0 record.
Geney Rios has been pitching great for the Cardinals as he has made three appearances (two starts) over the week for the team posting a 1-0 record, 3.60 ERA, and averages a strike out victim every inning. In his first start, on May 12th, he pitched four innings allowing two hits, one earned run, one walk, and struck out three.
Third baseman Hector Garcia is struggling at the plate as well as in the field. He only has two hits in 17 at-bats and leads the team in errors with three.
Fernando Cedeno made his first appearance on Monday night and was roughed up, allowing six hits, four runs (all earned), and striking out only one in 1.2 innings of relief.

Outfielder Christofher Dumont is tied for first with two home runs, first with eight runs scored, and tied for 13th with five RBIs.
