Jess Todd's last two outings at Double-A have been quite impressive, the best two-game stretch by any Springfield starter in club history. The 5-foot-10, 210 pound, right-hander allowed one hit over seven shut-out innings at Corpus Christi on May the 24th, losing the no-hitter with two outs in the seventh on a single.
Friday night, Todd gave up a lead-off single to Gabe Lopez of San Antonio, but didn't allow a base hit thereafter in seven scoreless innings. Todd has now allowed just two hits in his last 14 scoreless innings.
Todd, the Cardinals second round (82nd overall) draft pick of the June, 2007 First-Year Player Draft, has compiled a 1-1 record, with a stellar 0.91 ERA in 29.2 innings at Springfield, giving him a combined record between Springfield and Palm Beach of 4-1, with a 1.26 ERA, after nine starts and appearing in a total of 12 games, comprising of 57 innings pitched.
Todd could potentially be in Memphis before this season is over, earning multiple 'Pitcher/Starter of the Month' honors, certainly isn't going to hurt his chances.
