Cards Message Board Post of the Week: 8/2/08

Recognizing the very best post of the past week from our message board community of thousands of St. Louis Cardinals fans the world over. "Beopig" is our 146th weekly winner!

As we do each and every week here at, we call out the best of the best - the "Post of the Week" from our St. Louis Cardinals message board.

Here is the link to the Message Boards, of which there are several – for fantasy players, insider information for subscribers, general topics, non-Cardinals sports and more.

This article covers the week ending Saturday, August 2.

"CariocaCardinal" began a new discussion called "September 1 call up (speculation) thread", in which he offered an early set of projections as to which minor leaguers might be added to the St. Louis club when rosters expand in September. "thejager" added a pair of solid posts near the bottom of that same page, expanding the look to 40-man roster possibilities next season.

"The Rest of the Way" is a thread initiated by "Beopig" that considered the strengths of the remaining schedules for the three National League Central Division competitors.

Though we whiffed on recognizing this thread last week, it continued into this period just fine without our help, thank you. "Status of the Cards" was also started by "Beopig" and takes a look at team payrolls for playoff clubs this decade as well as the Cardinals' ranking over the last 20 years. The conclusions are that the Cardinals owners don't appear to be cheap and spending more money does not always buy championships.

As that discussion continued, on page three, "forsch31", "SkinnyPimp" and "AustinCardinal" each added strong posts. "forsch" looked at the potential September roster even with no trades while "Skinny" and "Austin" used simple facts to completely and effectively dismantle the views of a few repetitive posters irrationally critical of ownership's spending.

In recognition of those two aforementioned threads initiated, "Beopig" is our winner of the "Post of the Week". He collects a free four-week subscription to and all the other great sites in the network.

Next week, it can be you! So, keep posting!
