The Cardinals Minor League Notebook 08/21

It was a wet day in Florida costing the Florida teams action. Two more teams were scheduled to be off, the Quad Cities and Batavia. Jose Martinez looked like the player many expected while a very young Charllan Jimenez was fantastic for the DSL team.

Games Played Wednesday

Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A) - Lost to Omaha 7-6

The Royals got to starter P.J. Walters for five runs in 5.1 innings. Randy Flores was charged with the loss after allowing a run in two-thirds of an inning.

Josh Phelps hit his 30th home run of the season, a three-run shot, in the third inning to give the Redbirds the lead. Phelps now has 96 RBIs on the season. Nick Stavinoha hit his 16th of the year and is hitting .336 with 73 RBIs.

Springfield Cardinals (Double-A) - Falls to NWA 6-5

But it wasn't to be as the Naturals connected for two solo home runs off of Perdomo to take a two-game lead in the Texas League North.

Starter Adam Ottavino scattered nine hits that led to four runs in five innings of work. Jon Mikrut chipped in two shutout innings of relief.

In his Double-A debut, Brett Wallace had a double in four at bats. Donovan Solano singled and doubled to push his average to .339 since being promoted.

Jose Martinez had three doubles and scored a run for the Cardinals. The 22 year old has now hit in 10 straight games including five multi-hit games during that stretch.

Daryl Jones led off the game with his fourth Double-A home run and extended his hitting streak to seven games.
