The Batavia Muckdogs Bulletin: 08/23/08

With a half-game lead in the New York-Penn League's Pinckney Division, the Batavia Muckdogs are riding a five-game winning streak.



The week was highlighted by the Muckdogs' drive to first place and Adam Reifer's win in the New York-Penn League All-Star Game.   Batavia won all five games it played during the week, outscoring their opponents by a 21-10 margin. 


Reifer received the victory in the All-Star Game after striking out two in a scoreless ninth.  Outfielder Frederick Parejo hit a solo home run for the victorious NL squad.


Who's Hot


Colt Sedbrook continues to hit the ball in his first go-round in pro ball.  Sedbrook is batting .343 over his last 10 games to go along with five RBIs.  Brett Lilley is reaching base at a .362 clip in 13 games.  Chris Swauger is hitting .348 in August. 


Arquimedes Nieto has allowed only two earned runs in his last 17.2 innings.  Thomas Eager has given up one earned run in his last four appearances.  In his last outing, Scott Gorgen struck out seven in five shutout innings. 


Who's Not


Christian Rosa had only three hits in 16 at bats over the past week.  All-Star Shane Peterson is hitting only .184 in the month of August.  After a respectable July, Xavier Scruggs is hitting just .217 in June. 


New York-Penn League


With a record of 37-23, the Muckdogs lead the Pinckney Division by half a game.


As a team, Batavia ranks third in hitting, slugging, and fourth in on base percentage.  The team's 3.11 ERA is the third best in the league while its 25-team saves is tops.


Sedbrook ranks third in on base percentage, eighth in hitting, and sixth in hits.  Jose Garcia is eighth in runs and fourth in stolen bases.  Despite his struggles, Shane Peterson still ranks fifth in the league in on base percentage.


Ramon Delgado and Arquimedes Nieto are tied for sixth in the league with five wins.  Nieto's 1.28 is the league's second best.  Adam Riefer still leads the league in saves.

The Muckdogs continue their quest toward a division crown by hosting Williamsport before hitting the road to take on Mahoning Valley.
