The Cardinals Minor League Notebook 09/01

The Batavia Muckdogs defeated Jamestown Jammers 5-3 on Sunday, to take a half game lead in the NYP League Pinckney Division standings, with just six games left in the regular season, including two more games against the Jammers.

Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A) - Lost to Oklahoma 10-7

Brendan Ryan led the ‘Birds with three hits, three runs scored and two RBI. David Freese hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth for Memphis in the loss.

Memphis starter P.J. Walters walked a season-high six batters and fanned eight over 4.2 innings giving up four runs on four hits.

Springfield Cardinals (Double-A) - Lost to Arkansas 5-3

Third baseman Allen Craig had two hits and an RBI to pace the Cardinals offense Sunday, it just wasn't enough.

Starter Kyle Mura pitched 4.1 innings, giving up five runs, only two of them earned, on eight hits and two walks, while striking out two.

Quad Cities River Bandits (A) - Winners 11-10 over Wisconsin

The Quad Cities River Bandits emerged as the last team standing on Sunday evening at Modern Woodmen Park, outlasting the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for an 11-10 win in a back-and-forth affair that ended with a walkoff run in the bottom of the ninth.

Quad Cities (35-34, 68-65) used the victory to clinch a finish of better than .500 overall and at least .500 in the second half, overcoming a 9-5 deficit to outscore the Timber Rattlers 6-1 over the final three innings. Wisconsin (24-45, 55-80) did not record an out in the decisive ninth inning of a game that saw a combined 21 runs, 27 hits and nine errors.

Starter Ryan Kulik pitched 5.1 innings, giving up seven runs, three of them earned, on nine hits and a walk while striking out two. Jorge Rondon picked up the wild win, being the last man on the mound.

Batavia Muckdogs (SS) - Defeated Jamestown 5-3

It wasn't a must win, but it was close to one, with just six games remaining, including two more with Jamestown, the Dogs defeated the Jamestown Jammers 5-3, to move into first, a half game up on the Jammers.

Starter Ramon Delgado picked up the win, pitching five complete innings, giving up only one run on three hits, while striking out seven, without walking anyone.

Left-fielder Chris Swauger led the offense, going 2-for-3 and driving in three of the Dogs runs.
