Birdhouse MiLB "Reliever of the Month" August

The Florida State League post-season All-Star and the Palm Beach Cardinals' reliever, Francisco Samuel, posted a record of 0-1, with an ERA of 1.42 and organizational leading, eight saves in the month of August, to take home the "Birdhouse MiLB Reliever of the Month Award"

The month of August capped off an impressive season for the 6'1" 150 pound right-hander, Samuel, who in 59 appearances this season had 30 saves, to lead the FSL.

In response to his success this season, Josh Jones of the Birdhouse & Cardinals Best News Links, recently reported, that The St. Louis Cardinals organization may be sending right-handed closer Francisco Samuel to the Dominican League over the 2008-09 winter season. Samuel was selected in the 4th round by the Estrellas Orientales in the Liga Dominicana de Beisbol Professional (LDBP) draft on August 27.

The word is The Cardinals may be sending Samuel to the LDBP to fine tune his mechanics in order to be more prepared for a possible promotion to Double-A Springfield in 2009. With the shift in closers in the organization led by Chris Perez in St. Louis, a spot may be open for Fernando Salas at Triple-A Memphis and an opening for Samuel at Springfield next season.

The Palm Beach Cardinals are in the FSL Playoffs and with Samuel in the bullpen, ready to add to his already impressive 2008 resume.
