Muckdogs clinch division title with 4-1 win over the State College Spikes. Scott Gorgen on in relief, pitched five scoreless innings to pick up the historic win for Batavia.

Batavia Muckdogs (SS) - Winners 4-1 over State College

With Batavia's 4-1 victory over State College Saturday night, the Muckdogs have clinched the Pinckney Division title. Batavia will play Stedler Division winner Lowell in a best-of-three series beginning Monday night in Lowell.

Designated hitter Edwin Gomez gave the Dogs all the runs they would need Saturday, with a two run double in the second inning.

Starter Miguel Tapia pitched three compete innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks, while striking out three. After pitching five scoreless innings of relief, Scott Gorgen earned the win for the Muckdogs. Closer Adam Reifer earned his 22nd save, pitching the final three outs.

The Muckdogs will return home after the single game Monday in Lowell for a home playoff game Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m., and if necessary, Wednesday night at Dwyer Stadium, also at 7:05 p.m.

McNamara Division winner Staten Island will play wild card winner Jamestown in the other best-of-three series, with the winners meeting for a best-of-three finals.

The Jamestown Jammers and the Batavia Muckdogs finished tied for the Pinckney Division title, but the Muckdogs won the championship with a better winning percentage of .622 (46-28) as compared to .618 (47-29) for the Jammers. Batavia had a game each rained out against Mahoning Valley and Oneonta that the league ruled would not be made up.
