Cards Message Board Post of the Week: 9/14/08

Recognizing the very best post of the past week from our message board community of thousands of St. Louis Cardinals fans the world over. "BobReed" is our 152nd weekly winner!

As we do each and every week here at, we call out the best of the best - the "Post of the Week" from our St. Louis Cardinals message board.

Here is the link to the Message Boards, of which there are several – for fantasy players, insider information for subscribers, general topics, non-Cardinals sports and more.

This article covers the week ending Saturday, September 13.

The future of the Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter has been of concern for almost two seasons now and resurfaced this past week in the thread "Carpenter". Near the bottom of page one, "RCWarrior" looked back on the Cardinals business plan for 2008 and how it sets up 2009.

"2009 ML salary budget" is a new thread, initiated by "BeauHeart". There, a discussion ensued about the state of the economy and whether or not that might impact how much money the Cardinals spend on players this off-season.

Eyewitness reports from minor league contests are a welcome addition to the board. Our winner of "Post of the Week" two weeks ago, "jaym123", provided follow-on details about the "Springfield V Tulsa 08/29 position players" in a new thread last week. This provides an excellent companion to "jaym123's" earlier post which scouted Springfield's pitchers.

The thread called "TLR's price", is still running. On the top of page four, "BobReed" suggests Brian Barden be given a shot to prove himself at shortstop for the remainder of the 2008 season.

"BobReed" is also one of the many contributing to the voting for the "2009 Community Top 50 Prospects List". Partway down page 19, he offers a very strong case why pitcher Richard Castillo should be considered a top Cardinals prospect.

In recognition of those posts, "BobReed" is our winner of the "Post of the Week", with "jaym123" finishing a very close second. "BobReed" collects a free four-week subscription to and all the other great sites in the network.

Next week, it can be you! So, keep posting!
