Luhnow on the Cardinals System: Part Four

St. Louis Cardinals Vice President Jeff Luhnow discusses a number of players, 2009 rotation plans, the third base logjam at the upper levels of the system and much more in this final segment of a four-part interview.

In the final installment of our four-part interview, the St. Louis Cardinals farm director, Vice President of Amateur Scouting and Player Development Jeff Luhnow, discusses a number of the Cardinals top prospects.

Topics include Samuel Freeman at Palm Beach, Jaime Garcia's rehab, the potential Palm Beach and Springfield rotations for 2009 including the Floridians Mark Diapoules, Nick Additon, Tyler Herron and Shaun Garceau, plus the organizational focus on Florida, Texas and California.

We continue by discussing how the logjam at third base at the top levels of the system may be relieved, Steven Hill catching in Arizona, Jose Martinez's tough 2008, the emergence of lefty Hector Cardenas and Richard Castillo's fine season.

The final topics include the mix of high school and junior college players drafted in recent years and whether a filling pipeline could mean fewer draftees signed in 2009.
