Cards Message Board Post of the Week: 10/5/08

Recognizing the very best post of the past week from our message board community of thousands of St. Louis Cardinals fans the world over. "thejager" is our 155th weekly winner!

As we do each and every week here at, we call out the best of the best - the "Post of the Week" from our St. Louis Cardinals message board.

Here is the link to the Message Boards, of which there are several – for fantasy players, insider information for subscribers, general topics, non-Cardinals sports and more.

This article covers the week ending Saturday, October 4.

One of the primary contenders for the National League Most Valuable Player Award is Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols. "SkinnyPimp" began a thread to express his view called the "Albert for MVP Thread". "Skinny" demonstrated Pujols' consistency as well as provided a comparison to others.

The big announcement in the Cardinal Nation this past week was the four-year contract given starting pitcher Kyle Lohse. At the very top of page two of the thread, "Kyle Lohse", "easton714" offered an explanation as to why he feels baseball will be insulated from a short-term economic downturn.

One of the prime areas of the Cardinals needing off-season attention is a "Middle Infield Upgrade". On page three of a thread now at six pages, last week's Post of the Week winner "Jmodene1" analyzed the stats of prospective shortstop additions Troy Tulowitzki, Khalil Greene and Jimmy Rollins.

On page five of the same topic, "philskill" digs deeper into the Khalil Greene idea and offers up Florida's second baseman Dan Uggla as a personal prime trade target.

"Cardinals Payroll Table" is a thread devoted to how the Cards have spent their player budget in the past and where they have committed money for the future. "thejager's" reference document is now pinned to the top of the board in easy-to-read tabular form.

In recognition of that ongoing work, "thejager" is our winner of the "Post of the Week. He collects a free four-week subscription to and all the other great sites in the network.

Next week, it can be you! So, keep posting!
