The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 10/10

Shane Robinson went 3-for-5 with a home run as five St. Louis Cardinals prospects played in winter ball action on Thursday.

Hawaii Winter League

 

Jim Rapoport (Springfield): Started in LF and batted leadoff.  0-for-4 with two strikeouts. (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 4)

 

Tony Cruz (Palm Beach): Starting catcher and batted 5th.  1-for-2 with two runs and one walk.  Allowed one stolen base while behind the plate.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

 

Blake King (Palm Beach): Entered in the 7th and pitched one inning.  Allowed no hits or runs and walked two.  (pitches-strikes: 28-16 )(ground out-fly out :2-1).

 

Tyler Herron (Palm Beach) did not start Thursday as we had been informed.

 

Honolulu beat Waiikki 4-0 in 7 innings: link

The Sharks improve their record to 7-3-1 and pick up another game on Waikiki in the East Division standings.

 

North Shore visits Honolulu Friday @ 7:00pm HT.

 

Arizona Fall League

 

Shane Robinson (Memphis): Started in CF and batted lead off.  3-for-5 with one home run, two two-out RBIs, and one run.

 

Brett Wallace (Springfield): Pinch hit and took over the DH spot for Washington Nationals' prospect Bill Rhinehart, who was batting 7th.  1-for-1 with one run.

 

Peoria Saguaros beat Mesa 9-2: link

The Saguaros improve to 3-0 and hold down first place in the American Division.

 

The AFL's two undefeated teams clash Friday @ 12:35pm, Peoria Javelinas at Peoria Saguaros.  Both have a 3-0 record currently.

 

Also participating: Tyler Greene (Memphis), Steven Hill (Palm Beach-taxi squad), Adam Ottavino (Springfield), Brad Furnish (Springfield), Justin Fiske (Springfield), and Tyler Norrick (Palm Beach).

 

Mexican Pacific League

 

Opens Friday @ 7:00pm PDT, with Hermosillo visiting Mexicalli.  This is the only game scheduled for the day.


Ex-Cardinal Chris Narveson just arrived in time to join his winter ball team, Naranjeros de Hermosillo, for opening day and gave a short interview: link

Narveson re-signed with the Milwaukee Brewers last week, as he was set to be a free agent after the 2008 season.


Cardinals' prospects expected to participate: Francisco Rivera (Quad Cities) and Jason Motte (St. Louis-tentative).

 

Venezuelan League

Begins play October 14.

 

Players tentatively expected to participate: David Freese (Memphis), Jose Martinez (Springfield), Cesar Izturis (St. Louis-free agent), Mark Worrell (Memphis), Geney Rios (VSL), Carlos Oraa (VSL), Luke Gregerson (Springfield), Ron Flores (Memphis-free agent), and Reynier Gonzalez (Johnson City).

 

Venezuelan Parallel League

Begins play mid-October.

 

Numerous Cardinals' prospects expected to play.

 

Dominican League

Begins play October 15.

 

Players tentatively expected to play: Amaury Marti (Memphis), Luis Perdomo (Springfield), and D'Angelo Jimenez (Memphis-free agent).

 

Colombian League

Begins play October 24.

 

Players tentatively expected to play: Davis Bilardello (Palm Beach), Nick Derba (Palm Beach), Casey Mulligan (Palm Beach), Pete Parise (Palm Beach), and Carlos Pupo (Quad Cities).

 

Puerto Rican League

Begins play November 6.

 

Indios Tiburones de Aguadilla-Mayaguez's stadium failed an inspection by MLB officials and the team may not be allowed to play in the stadium until it is all up to standards: link 

 

Players tentatively expected to play: Yadier Molina (St. Louis-injury may prelude) and Juan Gonzalez (Memphis-free agent).
