The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 10/21

Hawaii Winter League

No games Monday, Honolulu (13-5-1) visits North Shore (6-12-1) Tuesday @ 7:00pm HT.


Tony Cruz (Palm Beach) is first with a .432 batting average, tied-fourth with six doubles, t-fourth with one triple, second with a .463 OBP, second with a .649 SLG, and first with a 1.112 OPS.


Jim Rapoport (Springfield) is t-fourth with two home runs and fifth with three stolen bases.


Blake King (Palm Beach) is t-fifth with seven games pitched.

Arizona Fall League


Shane Robinson (Memphis): Started in center field and batted leadoff.  1-for-5 with one double, one two-out RBI, one strikeout (swinging), and one ground into a double play.


Adam Ottavino (Springfield): Started and pitched three innings.  Allowed four hits, no runs, and struck out six of 12 batters faced.  (pitches-strikes: 51-31) (ground out-fly out: 3-0)


Peoria Saguaros gave up four runs in the 6th and never recovered, losing 4-2 to Peoria Javelinas: link

The Saguaros fall to 8-4 and are now only one game up on the second-ranked team in the league.

Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent): Has made four relief appearances posting a 1-0 record, 2.25 ERA, allowing four hits, one earned run, one walk, and striking out four over four innings.

Obregon is 2-6, good for a two-way tie for 7th place in the eight-team league.

Obregon visits Hermosillo Tuesday @ 7:30pm MST.


Jason Motte (St. Louis): Tentatively expected to pitch for Hermosillo.


Venezuelan League


Sunday recap:

Jose Martinez (Springfield): Started at shortstop and batted 9th.  0-for-2 with one strikeout (swinging).  Lifted later in the game.

Ex-Cardinal Carmen Cali walked three, threw two wild pitches, and struck out two over an inning of relief for Aragua.

Aragua tied the game up in the 8th to send it into extra innings, later to lose in the 14th, 5-4 to Magallanes: link

Jose Rada (GCL) has made one relief appearance allowing one hit and no runs over one inning for Aragua (not Zulia).

Roberto Espinoza (Quad Cities): Started at catcher and moved to first base, batting 6th.  2-for-4 with one double, one RBI, and one strikeout.

Peter Jaspe (VSL): Pinch hit for Cristofher Dumont (GCL), batting 7th.  1-for-1 with one double.

Jose Weffer (July 2nd signing): Entered in the third and pitched 2.1 innings.  Allowed two hit, no runs, walked one, hit one batter, and struck out one.   (ground out-fly out: 1-3) (inherited runners-scored: 1-0)

Javier Avendano (VSL): Entered in the seventh and pitched to two batters, striking out one.  (ground out-fly out:1-0)

Magallanes beat St. Louis 6-1: link

St. Louis welcomes ALB Orkas Tuesday.


Domnit Bolivar (Quad Cities): Started at shortstop and batted 7th.  2-for-3 with one double, one triple, two RBIs (one with two-outs), one walk, struck out once, and committed one fielding error.  Lifted later in the game.

Reynier Gonzalez (Johnson City): Started and pitched four innings.  Allowed two hits, one earned run, one walk, and struck out one.  (ground out-fly out: 7-3)

Kevin Moscatel (GCL): Started as designated hitter and batted 7th.  0-for-3 with one strikeout.

Dominican Republic League

D'Angelo Jimenez (Memphis-free agent) is 0-for-1 in only one game for Licey.

Amaury Marti (Memphis) is batting .125 with one triple, three RBIs, one walk, and one run scored for Licey.


Luis Perdomo (Springfield) has made two relief appearances, posting an 0-1 record and 13.50 ERA, allowing one hit, three runs (two earned), two walks, and no strikeouts over 1.1 innings for Aguilas.


Licey (1-3) welcome Aguilas (0-3) Tuesday @ 7:30pm AST.
