The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 10/25

Amaury Marti's 2-for-3 day with a home run and three RBI in the Dominican League leads Friday's St. Louis Cardinals prospects news in winter ball.

Hawaii Winter League


Tony Cruz (Palm Beach): Started as designated hitter and batted 4th.  0-for-3 with one run, one walk, and two strikeouts (swinging).


Jim Rapoport (Springfield): Started in centerfield and batted 6th.  1-for-4 with one strikeout (swinging).


Blake King (Palm Beach): Entered in the 9th and recorded the final out of the inning, just throwing one wild pitch.  (pitches-strikes: 4-2) (ground out-fly out: 1-0) (inherited runners-scored: 2-0)


Honolulu fell behind early and never recovered, losing 8-2 to West Oahu: link

The Sharks fall to 13-8-1 and have a two-game lead over the second place team in the league.

Ex-Cardinal Andy Cavazos pitched one inning walking one and striking out one for his first save.

Former Springfield Cardinal Juan Lucena was called up by Aragua, from Parallel league play.

Jose Martinez (Springfield) and Jose Rada (GCL): Did not play for Aragua.


Rico Washington (Memphis-free agent): Started at third base and batted 5th.  1-for-2 with one walk, one strikeout, and committed an error.

David Freese (Memphis): Did not play for Caribes.

Venezuelan Parellel League


Frederick Parejo (Batavia): Entered mid-game taking over right field and batting 6th.  2-for-2 with one double.

Domnit Bolivar (Quad Cities): Started at shortstop and batted 7th.  1-for-3 with one double, one RBI, one run, one strikeout, and committed three errors.

Omar Diaz (GCL): Started and lasted 2.1 innings.  Allowed six hits, five runs (three earned), one walk, threw one wild pitch, and struck out one en route to his first loss.  (ground out-fly out: 7-0)

Osmir Medina (VSL): Pinch hit and took over for Ted Obregon at second base, batting 2nd.  1-for-1 with one RBI, one run, and assisted in one double play.

Alberto Rivero (VSL): Started in centerfield and batted 3rd.  2-for-3 with one double, two RBIs, one walk, and stole one base.

Yorbel Alcala (VSL): Started at catcher and batted 5th.  1-for-2 with one double and one run.

Billy Bolivar (VSL): Took over in right field for Cristofher Dumont, batting 8th.  1-for-1 with one home run, one RBI, two runs, and one walk.

Geney Rios (VSL): Started and pitched five innings.  Allowed six hits, three earned runs, one home run, one walk, and struck out one.  (ground out-fly out: 8-4)

Carlos Oraa (VSL): Followed Rios and pitched 2.1 innings.  Allowed five hits, two earned runs, threw one wild pitch, and struck out three.  (ground out-fly out: 1-2)

Francisco Guzman (VSL): Entered in the eighth and pitched 1.1 innings.  Allowed one hit, no runs, walked two, and threw one wild pitch en route to his first win.  (ground out-fly out: 2-1) (inherited runners-scored: 2-1)

St. Louis scored five in the final two frames to beat Caracas 7-6: link

St. Louis takes over first place in the league with a win and losses by Caribes and Aragua.

Fernando Cedeno (VSL): Entered in the sixth and pitched 2.2 innings.  Allowed seven hits, three earned runs, walked two, threw one wild pitch, and struck out one en route to his first loss.  (ground out-fly out: 1-3)

Caribes tied the game up in the 6th, but the bullpen handed Tampa Bay the win, 6-2: link

Dominican Republic League


Amaury Marti (Memphis): Started in right field and batted 4th.  2-for-3 with one home run, two RBIs (one with two-outs), three runs, one walk, and reached base on a missed catch.

D'Angelo Jimenez (Memphis-free agent): Started at third base and batted 7th.  1-for-4 with two two-out RBIs, one walk, and one strikeout (looking).  Assisted in one double play in the field.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

Former Cardinals' farmhand Shawn Garrett hit the other home run for Licey, a solo shot in the 6th.
