Outfielder Amaury Marti's two doubles in the Dominican leads Sunday's St. Louis Cardinals prospects news in winter ball.

Hawaii Winter League

 

Jim Rapoport (Springfield): Started in centerfield and batted leadoff.  1-for-5 with one strikeout (swinging).  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 2)

Tony Cruz (Palm Beach): Started at catcher and batted 4th.  0-for-4 with one walk,one strikeout (swinging), and ground into one double play.  Threw out one base runner and let another steal a base while behind the plate.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

Tyler Herron (Springfield): Entered in the sixth and pitched 2.1 innings.  Allowed two hits, no runs, and two strikeouts.  (pitches-strikes: 27-17) (ground out-fly out: 3-2) (inherited runners-scored: 3-0)

Steven Hill (Palm Beach-taxi squad) is batting .276 with three doubles, one home run, five RBIs, four runs, .343 OBP, .483 SLG, and .826 OPS in eight games.

Shane Robinson (Memphis) is batting .250 with one double, two home runs, 14 RBIs, 14 runs, .329 OBP, .367 SLG, and .695 OPS in 14 games.

Brett Wallace (Springfield) is batting .200 with three doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs, ten runs, .273 OBP, .380 SLG, and .653 OPS in 13 games.

 

Adam Ottavino (Springfield) has made five starts posting a 2-1 record and 5.27 ERA.  He's allowed 16 hits, 11 runs (eight earned), one home run, five walks, and struck out 13 over 13.2 innings.

Tyler Norrick (Palm Beach) has made eight relief appearances posting a 8.38 ERA.  He's allowed 16 hits, 12 runs (nine earned), four home runs, six walks, and struck out nine over 9.2 innings.

Brad Furnish (Springfield) has made seven relief appearances posting a 10.61 ERA.  He's allowed 14 hits, 11 earned runs, five walks, and struck out six over 9.1 innings.

Justin Fiske (Springfield) has made five relief appearances posting an 0-1 record and 3.00 ERA.  He's allowed seven hits, five runs (two earned), one home run, four walks, and struck out five over six innings.

Mexican Pacific League

 

Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent): Entered in the sixth and pitched the final inning.  Allowed no hits or runs, one intentional walk, and struck out one.  (ground out-fly out: 1-1)

Former Cardinal prospect Reid Gorecki drove in two of the three Navojoa runs.

Obregon fell behind mid-game and lost 3-1 to Navojoa in game 1 of a doubleheader: link

 

Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent): Entered in the fifth and pitched to three batters.  He struck on one, hit another, and got the other batter to ground out.

Obregon scored two in the sixth to send it into extras and lost to Navojoa 4-3 in the bottom of the eight in game 2 of a doubleheader: link

 

League takes Monday off, Obregon visit Guasave Tuesday @ 7:30pm MST.

 

Francisco Rivera (Quad Cities): Currently on the Culiacan disabled list.

Jason Motte (St. Louis): tentatively expected to pitch for Hermosillo.

 

Venezuelan League

 

David Freese (Memphis) Started as designated hitter and batted 7th.  0-for-3 with three strikeouts (two looking and one swining).

Rico Washington (Memphis-free agent): Did not play for Caribes.

Ex-Cardinal farmhands Mike Smith and Jose Garcia combined gave up 12 hits, ten runs (nine earned), four walks, one home run and only struck out two in the first 4.2 innings.

Jose Martinez (Springfield) and Jose Rada (GCL): Did not play for Aragua

Aragua scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth beating La Guaira 5-4: link

Ron Flores (Memphis-free agent): Entered in the eighth and pitched to three batters.  He gave up a solo home run and struck the other two out.  (inherited runners-scored:1-1)

Luke Gregerson (Springfield): Did not pitch for Margarita.

Margarita (7-11) takes Monday and Tuesday off, visits Caracas (12-5) Wednesday @ 7:30pm VST.

Jose Calero (GCL) has made six relief appearances posting a 1-1 record and 3.09 ERA.  He's allowed 14 hits, five runs (four earned), four walks, and struck out seven over 11.2 innings.

Reynier Gonzalez (Johnson City) has made four appearance (two starts) posting 2.70 ERA.  He's allowed seven hits, three earned runs, one home run, two walks, and struck out six over ten innings.

Ex-Cardinal Jorge Sosa had another great start giving up only one hit, walking four, and striking out one over six innings for Licey.

Luis Perdomo (Springfield): Did not pitch for Aguilas.

Colombian League

 

Friday's results:

Donovan Solano (Springfield) scored one of the two runs for Barranquilla in the ninth.

Barranquilla beat Sincelejo 2-1, Cartegena beat Monteria 7-4: link

 

Saturday's results:

Casey Rowlett (Memphis) played second base, for Sincelejo, and assited in a triple play that nailed Donovan Solano (Springfield), who plays for Barranquilla, at first base.

Sincelejo beat Barranquilla 4-3. Cartegena beat Monteria 5-4: link

 

Also participating: Ryan Bird (Instructional), Pete Parise (Palm Beach), Alexander Castellano (DSL), Davis Bilardello (Palm Beach), Casey Mulligan (Palm Beach), and possibly Nick Derba (Palm Beach).

 

Puerto Rican League

 

Gigantes de Carolina, managed by Jose Oquendo (St. Louis) featuring P.J. Walters (Memphis) and Bryan Anderson (Memphis) open Thursday at Santurce, which have Rigoberto Lugo (Batavia) listed on their roster, @ 7:35 pm AST.  This is the only game scheduled for opening day.

 

Also participating: Felipe Lopez (St. Louis-free agent/reserve), Yadier Molina (St. Louis-December), and possibly Juan Gonzalez (Memphis-free agent).
