The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 11/04

Brett Wallace's double, home run and six RBI in Arizona lead Monday's St. Louis Cardinals prospects news in winter ball.

Hawaii Winter League

 

No games Monday.  The Honolulu Sharks (14-13) look to jump back into a two-way tie for first place in the East Divison Tuesday as they visit Werst Oahu (13-14) @ 3:00pm HT.

 

Tony Cruz (Palm Beach) is batting .354 with eight doubles, one triple, nine RBIs, eight runs, .394 OBP, .508 SLG, and .902 OPS in 18 games.

Jim Rapoport (Springfield) is batting .290 with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs, ten runs, .372 OBP, .406 SLG, and .778 OPS in 21 games.

Blake King (Palm Beach) has made 11 relief appearances posting a 3.60 ERA and one hold.  He has allowed 12 hits, six earned runs, 14 walks, and struck out 15 over 15 innings.

Tyler Herron (Springfield) has made five relief appearances posting a 0.90 ERA and one hold.  He has allowed 13 hits, five runs (one earned), five walks, and struck out eight over ten innings.

 

Arizona Fall League

 

Shane Robinson (Memphis): Started in centerfield and batted leadoff.  1-for-3 with one double, one two-out RBI, two runs, one stolen base, one walk, two hit by pitches, and one strikeout (swinging).

Brett Wallace (Springfield): Started at thrid base and batted 7th.  4-for-5 with one double, one home run, six RBIs (three with two-outs), and one run.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

Tyler Norrick (Palm Beach): Entered in the fourth and pitched one inning.  Allowed one hit, no runs, and struck out three while picking up his second hold in league play.  (pitches-strikes:20-10)

Brad Furnish (Springfield): Followed Norrick and pitched 1.1 innings.  Allowed four hits, three runs (two earned), and threw two wild pitches.  (pitches-strikes:32-18) (ground out-fly out: 1-3)

 

Peoria Saguaros squeaked by Scottsdale 11-7: link

The Saguaros improve to 16-7 and climb back into a two-way tie in the American Division with Mesa as they lost Monday.

Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent) has made ten appearances (one start) posting a 1-1 record, 6.52 ERA, and one hold.  He's allowed 14 hits, seven earned runs, one home run, three walks, and struck out seven over 9.2 innings.

No games Monday, Obregon (5-15) visits Guasave (12-8) Tuesday @ 7:30pm MST.

 

Francisco Rivera (Quad Cities): Currently on the Culiacan disabled list.

Jason Motte (St. Louis): Tentatively expected to pitch for Hermosillo.

 

Venezuelan League

 

Rico Washington (Memphis-free agent): Started in left field and batted 7th.  0-for-3 with one walk and one strikeout (swinging).

David Freese (Memphis): Did not play for Caribes.

Jose Martinez (Springfield) is batting .118 with two doubles, two runs, .118 OBP, .235 SLG, and .353 OPS in five games.

Jose Rada (GCL) has made three relief appearances posting a 0.00 ERA.  He's allowed three hits, no runs, and struck out four over 4.2 innings.

Aragua (6-8) had Monday off, visit Caracas (12-5) Tuesday @ 7:30pm VST.

 

Luke Gregerson (Springfield) has made seven relief appearances posting a 2-0 record, 0.00 ERA, and two holds.  He's allowed six hits, no runs, one walk, and struck out seven over 8.1 innings.

Ron Flores (Memphis-free agent) has made eight relief appearances posting a 0-1 record, 8.10 ERA, and three holds.  He's allowed five hits, four runs (three earned), one walk, and struck out four over 3.1 innings.

Margarita (7-11) had Monday off and also have Tuesday off, visit Caracas (12-5) Wednesday @ 7:30pm VST.

 

Cesar Izturis (St. Louis-free agent): Expected to join Lara sometime in November.

Mark Worrell (Memphis): Tentatively expected to join Zulia.

 

Venezuelan Parallel League

 

Kevin Moscatel (GCL): Entered late in the game as a pinch hitter for the DH, batting 5th.  0-for-1 with one two-out RBI.

Caribes clobbered Leones 12-1: link

 

Jose Garcia (Batavia): Started at third abse and batted leadoff.  0-for-2 with one walk and committed one fielding error.

Gigantes de Carolina managed by Jose Oquendo (St. Louis) featuring P.J. Walters (Memphis) and Bryan Anderson (Memphis) open Thursday at Santurce, which have Rigoberto Lugo (Batavia) listed on their roster, @ 7:35 pm AST.  This is the only game scheduled for opening day.

 

Also participating: Felipe Lopez (St. Louis-free agent/reserve), Yadier Molina (St. Louis-December), and possibly Juan Gonzalez (Memphis-free agent).
