The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 11/05

Shane Robinson's three doubles in Arizona lead Tuesday's St. Louis Cardinals prospects news in winter ball.

Hawaii Winter League


Jim Rapoport (Springfield): Started in left field and batted 2nd.  0-for-5 with two strikeouts (foul tip and swinging).  Rapoport committed a fielding error in the sixth, letting runners advance and later score.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

Tony Cruz (Palm Beach): Started as catcher and batted 4th.  2-for-4 with one double, one run, one walks, and one strikeout (swinging).

Blake King (Palm Beach): Entered in the fifth and pitched to seven batters.  Allowed one hit, two earned runs, four walks, one balk, and struck out one.  (pitches-strikes: 37-16) (ground out-fly out: 0-1)

New York Mets prospect Junior Guerra was kind enough to hold all three runners on base following King.


Honolulu gave up six runs in the third and lost 13-5 to West Oahu: link

The Sharks fall to 14-13-1 and one game out of first place in the East Division.

Arizona Fall League


Shane Robinson (Memphis): Started in centerfield and batted leadoff.  3-for-6 with three doubles, one RBI, two runs, and reached on a fielding error.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

Brett Wallace (Springfield): Started as designated hitter and batted 4th.  1-for-4 with one home run, one RBI, one run, one walk, and two strikeouts (swinging and looking).  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

Tyler Greene (Memphis): Started at third base and batted 5th.  1-for-5 with one double, one run, and three strikeouts (swinging).

Justin Fiske (Springfield) Entered in the sixth and pitched one inning.  Allowed two hits, one earned run, struck out one and assisted in one double play.  (pitches-strikes:16-10) (ground out-fly out: 2-0)


Peoria Saguaros scored the winning run in the bottom of the 9th to beat Mesa 13-12: link

The Saguaros improve to 16-7 and jump back into a two-way tie with Mesa atop the American Division.

Venezuelan Parallel League


Kleineger Teran (GCL): Started at first base and batted 2nd.  1-for-4 with one double, two two-out RBIs, and one walk.  Teran assisted in one double play and committed one error.

Frederick Parejo (Batavia): Started in left field and batted 8th.  3-for-4 with one double, two runs, one walk, and committed on error.

Domnit Bolivar (Quad Cities): Started at shortstop and batted 9th.  2-for-5 with one two-out RBI and one stolen base.

Jose Calero (GCL): Entered in the second and lasted 1.2 innings.  Allowed six hits, five runs (one earned), and struck out three.  (ground out-fly out: 1-0) (inherited runners-scored: 2-1)

Ruben Alvarado (VSL): Entered in the eighth and pitched one inning.  Allowed one hit, no runs, one walk, and struck out two.  (ground out-fly out: 1-0)

Pablo Ortiz (GCL): Entered in the ninth and pitched one inning.  Allowed one hit, no runs, one walk, and struck out one.

Gerardo Mannbel (VSL): Started third base and batted 3rd.  1-for-3 with one double, one run, and assisted in one double play.

Yorbel Alcala (VSL): Started at catcher and batted 5th.  2-for-3 at the plate.

Anthony Fonseca (VSL): Started in centerfield and batted 6th.  1-for-1 with one RBI and one sac fly.

Yonathan Gonzalez (VSL): Started and pitched five innings.  Allowed seven hits, two earned runs, one home run, one walk, and struck out three en route to his second loss in league play. (ground out-fly out: 7-1)

Carlos Oraa (VSL): Followed Gonzalez and pitched 3.2 innings.  Allowed six hits, three runs (one earned), and struck out one.  (ground out-fly out: 4-5)

Fabian Marquez (VSL): Followed Oraa and pitched to the final three batters of the game.  Allowed no hits, one unearned run, and one walk.  (inherited runners-scored: 2-2)

Juan Gonzalez (Memphis-free agent) is listed as a reserve on the Gigantes roster.


Gigantes beat Santurce 4-2 on November 1, in an exhibition game.  Rigoberto Lugo (Batavia) made an appearance (no stats available).


Tomorrow, the season opens with P.J. Walters (Memphis) starting for Gigantes as they visit Santurce @ 7:35pm AST.
