The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 11/06

From Arizona, Tyler Greene's triple, stolen base and RBI lead Wednesday's St. Louis Cardinals prospects news in winter ball.

Hawaii Winter League

 

Tony Cruz (Palm Beach): Started as designated hitter and batted 4th.  1-for-4 with one strikeout (foul tip) and ground into one double play.

 

Jim Rapoport (Springfield): Pinch ran for Cruz in the ninth and was caught stealing.

 

The game ended after nine innings in a 0-0 tie between Honolulu and West Oahu: link

The Sharks stand at 14-14-2 and are a game and a half out of first place in the East Division.

The league takes Thursday off. Honolulu returns Friday visiting Waikiki @ 7:30pm HT.

Arizona Fall League

 

Tyler Greene (Memphis): Started at third base and batted 3rd.  1-for-4 with one triple, one RBI, one stolen base, reached on a fielding error, and one strikeout (swinging).  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

 

Steven Hill (Palm Beach-taxi squad): Started as catcher and batted 7th.  0-for-4 with two strikeouts (swinging) and ground into one double play. (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

 

Peoria Saguaros lost to Scottsdale 7-3: link

The Saguaros fall to 17-8 and back into a first place tie with Mesa in the American Division.

Francisco Rivera (Quad Cities): Currently on the Culiacan disabled list.

Jason Motte (St. Louis): Tentatively expected to pitch for Hermosillo.

 

Venezuelan League

 

David Freese (Memphis) and Rico Washington (Memphis-free agent): Kept the bench warm for Caribes.

Caribes added nine runs in the fifth and sixth to beat La Guaira 11-3: link

Jose Martinez (Springfield): Made his return, entering the game as a defensive substitution in the eighth.  No at-bat in the game.

Jose Rada (GCL): Entered in the sixth and pitched two innings.  Allowed one hit, no runs, and one walk en route to his first win in league play.  (ground out-fly out:1-5)

Former Cardinal farmhand Prentice Redman went 3-for-4 with a double and three-run home run.

Aragua tacked on eight runs in the fourth to beat Lara 11-2: link

 

Luke Gregerson (Springfield): Entered in the eighth and pitched one inning.  He faced three batters getting one to strike out and the other two to ground out.  (pitches-strikes:14-10)

Ron Flores (Memphis-free agent): Did not pitch for Margarita.

Margarita fell behind early, losing 8-1 to Caracas: link

Cesar Izturis (St. Louis-free agent): Expected to join Lara sometime in November.
