The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 11/07

Shane Robinson scored four times and stole his eighth base in Arizona headlining Thursday's St. Louis Cardinals prospects news in winter ball.

Hawaii Winter League

 

No games Thursday. Honolulu (14-14-2) visit division rival Waikiki (16-13-1) Friday @ 7:30pm HT.  The Sharks are a game and a half behind the Beach Boys.

 

Tony Cruz (Palm Beach) is batting .356 with nine doubles, one triple, nine RBIs, nine runs, .400 OBP, .507 SLG, and .907 OPS in 20 games.

Jim Rapoport (Palm Beach) is batting .270 with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs, ten runs, .349 OBP, .378 SLG, and .728 OPS in 23 games.

Blake King (Palm Beach) has made 12 relief appearances posting a 4.60 ERA and one hold.  He's allowed 13 hits, eight earned runs, 18 walks, and struck out 16 over 15.2 innings.

Tyler Herron (Springfield) has made five relief appearances posting a 0.90 ERA and one hold.  He's allowed 13 hits, five runs (one earned), five walks, and struck out eight over ten innings.

 

Arizona Fall League

 

Shane Robinson (Memphis): Started in centerfield and batted leadoff.  0-for-2 with four runs, four walks, one stolen base, and reached on a fielding error.   (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

Brett Wallace (Springfield): Started at third base and batted 5th.  2-for-5 with one double, one two-out RBI, one run, one walk, and two strikeouts (swinging and looking).

Adam Ottavino (Springfield): Started and pitched 3.2 innings.  Allowed eight hits, seven runs (five earned), two walks, one home run, and struck out two.  (pitches-strikes: 76-45) (ground out-fly out: 4-4)

Tyler Norrick (Palm Beach): Followed Ottavino and pitched 1.1 innings.  Allowed one hit, no runs, threw one wild pitch, and struck out two en route to his first win in league play.  (pitches-strikes: 18-10) (ground out-fly out: 1-1) (inherited runner-scored: 1-0)

Brad Furnish (Springfield): Entered in the eighth and pitched one inning.  Allowed no hits or runs, one walk, and struck out two.  (pitches-strikes: 17-9) (ground out-fly out: 0-1)

 

Peoria Saguaros scored in all innings except for the third, beating down Scottsdale 20-9: link

Francisco Rivera (Quad Cities): Currently on the Culiacan disabled list.

Jason Motte (St. Louis): Tentatively expected to pitch for Hermosillo.

 

Venezuelan League

 

David Freese (Memphis) and Rico Washington (Memphis-free agent): Warmed the bench a second day.

Former Springfield Cardinals reliever Jose Garcia picked up the win after pitching 2.2 scoreless innings for Caribes.

Caribes made a comeback mid-game and held off La Guaira for a 7-5 win: link

Ron Flores (Memphis-free agent): Entered in the sixth and walked the only two batters he faced.  (inherited runners-scored: 1-0)

Luke Gregerson (Springfield): Entered in the eighth and pitched one inning.  Allowed no hits or runs and walking while picking up his third hold in league play.  (ground out-fly out: 2-1)

 

Jose Rada (GCL) and Jose Martinez (Springfield): Did not play for Aragua.

Limbert Rivas (VSL): Started at catcher and batted 5th.  1-for-2 with one run and  one walk.  Had one passed ball behind the plate.

Cristofher Dumont (GCL): Started in right field and batted 6th.  1-for-3 with one home run, two RBIs, one run, and one stakeout.

Gerwuins Velazco (July 2nd signing): Started as designated hitter and batted 7th.  0-for-1 with two walks.

Wilson Perez (VSL): Started in left field and batted 8th.  1-for-3 with one strikeout.

Sergio Nieves (July 2nd signing): Started and pitched four innings.  Allowed three hit, one unearned run, one walk, hit one batter, and struck out four.  (ground out-fly out :5-3)

Gregorio Ramos (VSL): Followed Nieves and pitched to six batters.  Allowed two hits, four earned runs, two walks (one intentional), and threw one wild pitch en route to  his first loss in league play.  (ground out-fly out: 1-1)

Miguel Lopez (VSL): Followed Ramos and pitched to three batters.  Allowed two hits, one earned run, and one home run.  (ground out-fly out: 1-0) (inherited runners-scored: 2-2)

Eduardo Sanchez (Quad Cities): Pitched the sixth and final frame.  Allowed three hits, two earned runs, threw one wild pitch, and struck out three.
