The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 11/11

Brett Wallace's 4-for-5 day with three RBI in Arizona headlines Monday's St. Louis Cardinals prospects news in winter ball.

Hawaii Winter League


Had Monday off. Honolulu (16-15-2) visits North Shore (13-18-2) Tuesday @ 3:00pm HT.


Tony Cruz (Palm Beach) is batting .338 with nine doubles, one triple, ten RBIs, nine runs, .375 OBP, .475 SLG, and .850 OPS in 22 games.

Jim Rapoport (Springfield) is batting .259 with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs, 11 runs, .344 OBP, .353 SLG, and .697 OPS in 26 games.


Blake King (Palm Beach) has made 13 relied appearances posting a 4.86 ERA and one hold.  He's allowed 14 hits, nine earned runs, one home run, 19 walks, and striking out 16 over 16.2 innings.

Tyler Herron (Springfield) has made six relief appearance posting a 0.75 ERA and one hold.  He's allowed 13 hits, five runs (one earned), five walks, and striking out ten over 12 innings.


Arizona Fall League


Shane Robinson (Memphis): Started in centerfield and batted leadoff.  2-for-4 with one double, two RBIs, one run, one walk, and ground into one double play.


Brett Wallace (Springfield): Started at third base and batted 7th.  4-for-5 with three RBIs, three runs, and one strikeout (swinging).  Had a fielding error in the 2nd innings, but runner did not score.  Wallace drove in the winning runs to put Saguaros up by two.


Peoria Saguaros scored seven in the eighth to slip by Phoenix, 13-11: link

The Saguaros become the first team to 20 wins, improving to 20-9 record and have a two game lead over Mesa in the American Division.

Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent) has made 12 appearances (one start) posting a 1-1 record, 7.59 ERA, and one hold.  He's allowed 14 hits, ten runs (nine earned), one home run, five walks, and striking out seven over 10.2 innings.

Obregon (9-17) visit Mazatlan (11-15) Tuesday @ 8:00pm MST.


Culiacan placed former Memphis Redbird Reggie Taylor on the disabled list, joining Francisco Rivera (Quad Cities).

Jason Motte (St. Louis): Tentatively expected to pitch for Hermosillo.


Venezuelan League

Jose Martinez (Springfield) is batting .118 with two doubles, two runs, .118 OBP, .235 SLG, and .353 OPS in six games.

Jose Rada (GCL) has made four relief appearances posting a 1-0 record and 0.00 ERA.  He's allowed four hits, no runs, one walks, and striking out four over 6.2 innings.

Luke Gregerson (Springfield) has made nine relief appearances posting a 2-0 record, 0.00 ERa, and three holds.  He's allowed six hits, no runs, two walks, and striking out eight over 10.1 innings.

Ron Flores (Memphis-free agent) has made nine relief appearances posting an 0-1 record, 8.10 ERA, and three holds.  He's allowed five hits, four runs (three earned), three walks, and striking out four over 3.1 innings.

Margarita (8-15) welcome Lara (11-2) Tuesday @ 8:00pm VST.

Cesar Izturis (St. Louis-free agent): Expected to join Lara sometime in November.

Mark Worrell (Memphis): Tentatively expected to pitch for Zulia.

Yorbel Alcala (VSL): Started at catcher and batted 8th.  0-for-2 with one two-out RBI, two strikeouts, and had one passed ball behind the plate.

Aragua stomped on NY Mets 8-1: link


Ted Obregon (GCL): Started at second base and batted leadoff.  2-for-5 with one two-out RBI and one strikeout.

Alberto Rivera (VSL): Started in centerfield and batted 3rd.  1-for-4 with one double and one strikeout.

Roberto Espinoza (Quad Cities): Took over at first base for Roberto Perez (VSL) and batted 4th.  Walked in both plate appearances.

Ely Jimenez (VSL Academy Tryout): Started in left field and batted 8th.  1-for-3 with one double, two runs, one walk, and two strikeouts.

Cesar Valera (July 2nd Signing): Started at shortstop and batted 9th.  2-for-4 with one double, one RBI, and one strikeout.

Francisco Guzman (VSL): Started and pitched 3.2 innings.  Allowed five hits, three earned runs, two walks, and struck out two en route to his third loss in league play.  (ground out-fly out: 3-4)

Fabian Marquez (VSL): Followed Guzman and pitched 2.1 innings.  Allowed four hits, one earned run, hit one batter, and struck out one.  (ground out-fly out: 3-3) (inherited runners-scored: 3-3)

St. Louis gave up three runs in the fourth and made a small comeback but lost 5-2 to Philadelphia: link


Kevin Moscatel (GCL): Started as designated hitter and batted 8th.  0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

Caribes scored two in the first three innings and held off Caracas 2-1: link

Ex-Memphis Redbird Tagg Bozied went 2-for-2 driving in three runs and drawing two walks for Azucareros.

Colombian League


Donovan Solano (Springfield) is batting .388 with six doubles, one home run, and five RBIs and is the top hitter for Barranquilla.  He answered a few questions for the El Heraldo, stating the Cardinals have asked him to work on his hitting, particularly getting extra base hits while in the league this winter.  The Barranquilla coach also answered one question about Solano and his fielding: link

Puerto Rican League

Players for Carolina:

Luis Mateo (Johnson City) is 1-for-3 with two runs and one total base in three games.

Bryan Anderson (Memphis) is 2-for-8 with one RBI, two runs, and two total bases in four games.

P.J. Walters (Memphis) has only made one start, allowing three hits, one earned run, one walk, and striking out four over 2.1 innings.

Yadier Molina (St. Louis) is expected to join the team in December.


Players for Santurce:

Rigoberto Lugo (Batavia) has only made one relief appearance, allowing no hits, one unearned run, one walk, and striking out one over one inning.

Felipe Lopez (St. Louis-free agent) is tentatively expected to join Santurce.


Carolina (2-2) visits Santurce (2-2) Tuesday @ 7:30pm AST.
