The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 11/13

Hawaii Winter League

 

3 days until the playoffs begin.

 

Tony Cruz (Palm Beach): Started at first base and batted 4th.  1-for-3 with one walk.  Cruz committed a throwing error and missed a catch in the third, runner advanced but did not score. (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

Jim Rapoport (Springfield): Started in right field and batted 6th.  0-for-3 with one walk and one strikeout (foul tip).  He committed a fielding error in the second, letting the runner advance but did not score.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 2)

 

Honolulu lost 5-1 to West Oahu: link

 

The Sharks fall to 16-17-2 and are now 1.5 games out of first place in the East Division.

Thursday's game between Honolulu and West Oahu has been cancelled.  Honolulu welcomes Waikiki (18-16-1) Friday @ 7:30pm HT.

Arizona Fall League

 

One-game championship is November 22.

 

Tyler Greene (Memphis): Started at second base and batted 3rd.  0-for-3 with one hit by pitch.

Brett Wallace (Springfield): Started at third base and batted 4th.  2-for-4 with one home run, one RBI, one run, and ground into one double play.

Steven Hill (Palm Beach-taxi squad): Started as designated hitter and batted 9th.  1-for-3 with one double, two two-out RBIs, and one walk.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 3)
Adam Ottavino (Springfield): Started and pitched four innings.  Allowed five hits, no runs, one walk, threw one wild pitch, and struck out six en route to his third win in league play.  (pitches-strikes: 65-45) (ground out-fly out: 4-1)

Tyler Norrick (Palm Beach): Followed Ottavino and pitched two innings.  Allowed two hits, one earned run, one walk, and struck out four while picking up his third hold of the winter season.  (pitches-strikes: 41-27) (ground out-fly out: 0-1)

 

Peoria Saguaros scored three in the 2nd and held off Peoria Javelinas for a 3-2 victory: link

The Saguaros improve to 21-10 and have a one game lead over Mesa in the American Division.

Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent): Did not pitch for Obregon.

Obregon gave up five runs in the 5th and never made a comeback, losing 5-2 to Mazatlan: link

Ex-Cardinal Chris Narveson had another solid start.  He allowed four hits, two runs, one home run, one walk, and struck out five over seven innings for Hermosillo: link


Francisco Rivera (Quad Cities): Currently on the Culican disabled list.

Jason Motte (St. Louis): Tentaively expected to pitch for Hermosillo.

 

Venezuelan League

 

Luke Gregerson (Springfield) and Ron Flores (Memphis-free agent): Did not pitch for Margarita.

Margarita lost 9-4 to Lara: link

Margarita (9-16) takes Thursday off, host Magallanes (12-12) Friday @ 8:00pm VST.

 

Jose Rada (GCL): Did not pitch for Aragua.

Aragua (9-12) had Wednesday off, visit Magallanes (12-12) Thursday @ 4:00pm VST.

 

Venezuelan Parallel League

 

Jose Martinez (Springfield): Started at shortstop and batted 2nd.  2-for-4 with one run, one walk, one strikeout, and committed one error in the field.

Jose Garcia (Batavia): Started as designated hitter and batted 5th.  1-for-3 with one double, two two-out RBIs, one walk, and one strikeout.

Pablo Ortiz (GCL): Entered in the eighth and pitch 1.2 innings.  Allowed three hits, three earned runs, one walk, hit two batters, threw one wild pitch, and struck out two.  (ground out-fly out: 2-1) (inherited runners-scored: 3-1)

Aragua was tagged for six runs in the final two frames and lost to Houston 7-2: link

Dominican Republic League

 

Amaury Marti (Memphis): Started as designated hitter and batted 5th.  0-for-4 with one ground into double play.

D'Angelo Jimenez (Memphis-free agent): Started at third base and batted 9th.  1-for-3 with one RBI.

Former Memphis Redbird Ricardo Rodriguez gave up six hits, three runs, and struck out one over 1.2 innings for Licey.

 

Luis Perdomo (Springfield): Entered in the eighth and pitched to three batters, giving up three hits and three earned runs.

Ex-Cardinal Hector Luna hit a three-run shot for Aguilas.

 

Aguilas scored in the first four innings and never let up, beating Licey 11-5: link

 

League takes Thursday off.

Aguilas (14-9) visits Escogido (11-11) Friday @ 7:30pm AST.

Licey (12-10) visit Azucareros (13-10) Friday @ 7:30pm AST.

 

Colombian League

 

Donovan Solano (Springfield) committed one error.

Barranquilla lost 12-1 to Monteria.

Puerto Rican League

 

Bryan Anderson (Memphis), Luis Mateo (Johnson City), P.J. Walters (Memphis), and Yadier Molina (St. Louis-December): Did not play for Carolina.

Carolina beat Mayaguez 5-2: link

 

Rigoberto Lugo (Batavia) and Felipe Lopez (St. Louis-free agent): Did not play for Santurce.

Santurce scored the winning run in the 12th to beat Caguas 5-4: link

 

Both Carolina and Santurce have Thursday off.
