The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 11/19

Arizona Fall League

 

Two days left in the regular season.

 

Shane Robinson (Memphis): Started in centerfield and batted leadoff.  2-for-4 with one double, one RBI, two runs, one walk, and one sac fly.  Robinson threw out a runner at second base in the first inning for an outfield assist.

Brett Wallace (Springfield): Started at third base and batted 3rd.  0-for-4 with one run, one walk, one hit by pitch, and one strikeout.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

Tyler Greene (Memphis): Started at second base and batted 7th.  1-for-5 with one RBI, one run, reached on an error, and struck out three times (swinging).  Greene had a fielding error in the third inning, letting the batter get on base and he would score later in the inning.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

 

Peoria Saguaros beat on Phoenix 14-8: link

The Saguaros improve to 25-11 and are still tied with Mesa atop the American Division.

Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent): Entered in the eight and pitched to four batters.  Allowed two hits, one earned run, and hit one batter.  (ground out-fly out: 1-0) (inherited runners-scored: 1-1)

Obregon jumped out in front first and held the lead for a 4-2 win over Culiacan: link

Ex-Cardinal prospect Mike McCoy made his first appearance as the designated hitter for Navojoa, going 0-for-3 with one strikeout: link

 

Former Cardinal Chris Narveson was placed on the Hermosillo disabled list and he was sent home for the rest of the winter after feeling fatigued.

Francisco Rivera (Quad Cities): Currently on the Culiacan disabled list.

Jason Motte (St. Louis): Tentatively expected to join Hermosillo.

 

Venezuelan League

 

Luke Gregerson (Springfield) Entered in the eighth and pitched one inning.  Allowed one hit and no runs en route to his third win in league play.  (ground out-fly out: 2-0)

 

Ex-Springfield Cardinal Jose Garcia struck out two of four batters faced for Caribes.

 

Margarita scored six in the fifth and held off Caribes for a 7-5 victory: link

Jose Martinez (Springfield) and Jose Rada (GCL): Did not play for Aragua.

Chicago Cubs pitcher Rich Hill was lit up for three hits, seven runs, three walks, and struck out two in the one inning and four batters in the second (there's more not noted here), for Aragua.

Cesar Izturis (St. Louis-free agent): Expected to join Lara in the coming weeks.

Anthony Fonseca (VSL): Started in left field and batted leadoff.  1-for-4 at the plate and committed one fielding error.

Roberto Ezpinoza (Quad Cities): Started at first base and batted 5th.  1-for-3 with one double and committed one fielding error.

Billy Bolivar (VSL): Started in right field and batted 8th.  2-for-3 with one double.

Moises Colorado (VSL): Started and pitched four innings.  Allowed four hits, one earned run, two walks, hit one batter, and struck out three en route to his third loss in league play.  (ground out-fly out: 5-2)

Carlos Oraa (VSL): Followed Colorado and pitched 2.2 innings.  Allowed four hits, two earned runs, two walks (one intentional), and hit one batter.  (ground out-fly out:2-5)

Eduardo Sanchez (Quad Cities): Followed Oraa and pitched 1.1 innings.  Allowed no hits or runs, two walks, hit one batter, threw one wild pitch, and struck out two.  (ground out-fly out: 2-0)(inherited runners-scored:2-0)

 

Jose Garcia (Batavia): Started at second base and batted 6th.  2-for-3 with one strikeout.

Reynier Gonzalez (Johnson City): Entered in the eighth and pitched two innings.  Allowed one hit, no runs, and struck out three, earning his first save of league play.  (ground out-fly out:2-1)

 

Aragua held St. Louis scoreless and to only four hits for a 3-0 win: link

Ex-Cardinal Kelvin Jimenez showed us the major league version of himself.  He gave up three hits, two earned runs, one home run, and struck out one facing four batters for Estrellas.

 

Licey scored four in the seventh and beat Estrellas 7-2: link

Luis Perdomo (Springfield): Did not pitch for Aguilas.
