The Cardinals Winter League Notebook: 11/21

Arizona Fall League


Shane Robinson (Memphis): Came in the ninth, taking over centerfield. 

Steven Hill (Palm Beach-taxi squad): Started in left field and moved to right field, batting 6th.  1-for-3 with one double and one walk.


Peoria Saguaros beat Surprise 4-3: link


The Saguaros finish the season with a 26-12 record and tied with Mesa for the best record in the AFL, but still fall short of the playoff game.


Other players who participated: Brett Wallace (Springfield), Tyler Greene (Memphis), Adam Ottavino (Springfield), Justin Fiske (Springfield), Brad Furnish (Palm Beach), and Tyler Norrick (Palm Beach).


Mexican Pacific League


Second half starts Friday.


Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent): Did not pitch for Obregon.

Former Memphis Redbird Reggie Taylor played in his first game for Obregon vs. his previous winter league team, Culiacan.

With Taylor's activation, starting pitcher Dan Serafini was placed on the disabled list.

Venezuelan League


Luke Gregerson (Springfield): Did not pitch for Margarita.

Margarita @ Caracas was postponed on Thursday: link

Margarita (13-17) visit Lara (16-16) Friday @ 7:30pm VST.


Jose Martinez (Springfield) and Jose Rada (GCL): Did not play for Aragua.

Magallanes @ Aragua was postponed Thursday due to rain: link

Cesar Izturis (St. Louis-free agent): His agent has been contacted by the Baltimore Orioles: link

Mark Worrell (Memphis): Tentatively expected to plitch for Zulia.


Venezuelan Parallel League


Reynier Gonzalez (Johnson City): Entered in the sixth and pitched 2.2 innings.  Allowed three hits, no runs, two walks, and struck out five.  (ground out-fly out: 1-1)

Aragua beat on Magallanes 11-4: link


Kevin Moscatel (GCL): Entered the game late as catcher, batting 4th.  0-for-1 with one strikeout.

Caribes scored on in the tenth to beat Leones 2-1: link

Dominican Republic League


Amaury Marti (Memphis): Started in right field and batted 5th.  1-for-3 with one triple, one run, one walk, one strikeout, and one ground into double play.

D'Angelo Jimenez (Memphis-free agent): Started at third base and batted 7th.  0-for-3 with one walk and two strikeouts.

Licey scored three in the eighth to tie and one in the ninth to beat Gigantes 6-5: link


Luis Perdomo (Springfield): Did not pitch for Aguilas.

Ex-Cardinal Hector Luna hit a two-run shot for Aguilas.

Aguilas scored seven in the third to beat Estrellas 7-2: link


Battle for first place: Aguilas (16-11) visit Licey (17-11) Friday @ 7:30pm AST.


Colombian League


Wednesday's results: (adding to yesterday)

Barranquilla beat Cartagena 9-7 in game 1

Cartagena beat Barranquilla 2-1 in game 2

Monteria finished off Sincelejo 9-8 in extras (completion of November 5th game)

Monteria shut out Sincelejo 4-0 in game 2: link


Pete Parise (Palm Beach) and Davis Bilardello (Palm Beach) both pitched an inning each in the second game for SincelejoNick Derba (Palm Beach) was tossed and escorted out by local police after getting into a scuffle during the game: link
