Recent signee Ryan Bird's 0.93 ERA in 29 innings in Colombia headlines Friday's St. Louis Cardinals prospects news in winter ball.

Mexican Pacific League


Hugo Castellanos (Memphis-free agent): Entered in the seventh and pitched to four batters.  He allowed one hit, three earned runs, and two walks.  (ground out-fly out: 1-0)

Former Memphis Redbird Reggie Taylor went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBIs.

Former Memphis Redbird Iker Franco went 3-for-4 with one double and a solo home run.


Former Memphis Redbird Shawn Garrett drove in two runs for Guasave.

Obregon gave up the winning run in the tenth and lost 5-4 to Guasave: link

Francisco Rivera (Quad Cities): Still on the Culiacan disabled list.

Jason Motte (St. Louis): Tentatively expected to pitch for Hermosillo.


Veracruz Instructional League (Mexico)


Joe Rogers (Memphis): Did not pitch for Minatitlan.

Venezuelan League

Cesar Izturis (St. Louis-free agent): Started at shortstop and batted leadoff.  1-for-5 with one run, one walk, stole one base, and grounded into one double play.


Luke Gregerson (Springfield): Did not pitch for Margarita.

Lara scored five in the sixth and beat Margarita 11-6: link

Jose Martinez (Springfield) and Jose Rada (GCL): Did not play for Aragua.

Aragua gave up the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, losing 6-5 to Magallanes: link

Free agent Freddy Garcia was pulled after two innings and is having shoulder problems once again: link

He was a rumored potential free agent target over the last year by the St. Louis Cardinals.


Mark Worrell (Memphis): Tentatively expected to pitch for Zulia.


Venezuelan Parallel League


Domnit Bolivar (Quad Cities): Started at shortstop and batted leadoff.  1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, two strikeouts, and one fielding error.

Ruben Alvarado (VSL): Entered in the sixth and pitched 1.1 innings.  Allowed one hit and no runs.  (ground out-fly out: 1-3) (inherited runners-scored: 1-1)

Omar Diaz (GCL): Followed Alvarado and pitched to the final five batters in the seventh.  Allowed one hit, no runs, two walks, threw one wild pitch, and struck out one.  (ground out-fly out:1-0)

Pablo Ortiz (GCL): Followed Diaz and pitched one inning.  Allowed one hit, one earned run, two walks, and struck out one.  (ground out-fly out: 1-1)

Jorge Rondon (Quad Cities): Followed Ortiz and pitched a third of an inning.  Allowed five hits, six runs (five earned), three walks, and hit one batter en route to his first loss in league play.

Aragua scored six in the fifth, but gave up six in the ninth and lost 12-11 to Margarita: link


Alberto Rivero (VSL): Started in centerfield and batted 2nd.  3-for-4 with one two-out RBI, one run, one sacrifice, and two stolen bases.

Roberto Espinoza (Quad Cities): Started at first base and batted 4th.  2-for-4 with one RBI, one run, two strikeouts, and assisted in one double play.

Limbert Rivas (VSL): Started at catcher and batted 5th.  1-for-3 with one double, one RBI, one run, one sacrifice, one strikeout, assisted in one double play, and threw out two base runners.

Sergio Nieves (July 2nd Signing): Started and pitched four innings.  Allowed six hits, two earned runs, two home runs, one walk, and struck out four.  (ground out-fly out: 4-2)

Gregorio Ramos (VSL): Followed Nieves and pitched 1.1 innings.  Allowed two hits, two earned runs, two home runs, one walk, and struck out one.  (ground out-fly out: 1-1)

Miguel Lopez (VSL): Followed Ramos and pitched 2.2 innings.  Allowed three hits, two earned runs, one home run, one walk, hit one batter, threw one wild pitch, and struck out two en route to his first loss in league play.

St. Louis lost to Leones 6-5: link

Venezuelan Parallel Western League


Jose Penaloza (GCL) has made nine relief appearances posting an 0-2 record and 6.62 ERA.  He's allowed 23 hits, 15 runs (13 earned), seven walks, one balk, hit five batters, and struck out 21 over 17.2 innings.

Zulia was shut out 2-0 by Seattle on Friday. Penaloza did not pitch.


Playing for Marineros-Lara:

Richard Castillo (Quad Cities) has made ten appearances (five starts) posting a 3-0 record, 2.57 ERA, and one save.  He's allowed 26 hits, 13 runs (12 earned), three home runs, 14 walks, hit six batters, thrown two wild pitches, and struck out 42 over 42 innings.


Dominican Republic League


Amaury Marti (Memphis): Started in right field and batted 5th.  0-for-3 with two runs, two walks, and two strikeouts (looking and swinging).

D'Angelo Jimenez (Memphis-free agent): Started as designated hitter and batted 8th.  1-for-2 with two RBIs (one with 2-outs) and two walks.
Former Memphis Redbird Ricardo Rodriguez started for Licey and was pulled in the second inning after giving up six hits and seven earned runs.


Ex-Cardinal Fernando Tatis went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Estrellas.

Former Springfield Cardinal Juan Richardson clubbed two solo home runs for Estrellas.

Former Memphis Redbird Nerio Rodriguez had a no-hitter broken up in the sixth when a line drive hit him below his left eye.  The injury required minor surgery early this morning: link

Escogido beat Gigantes 2-1 and Rodriguez picked up the win (no box score posted).


Minnesota Twins' pitcher Nelson Liriano is expected to make his first winter start, for Escogido, on December 6 vs. Ponce in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rican League Interleague challenge: link

Alexander Castellano (DSL) is batting .150 with rwo runs, three total bases, eight strikeouts, .150 SLG, and .227 OBP in ten games.  He's committed three errors in the field.


Playing for Sincelejo:

Davis Bilardello (Palm Beach) has made 12 relief appearances posting a 1-1 record and 6.55 ERA.  He's allowed 16 hits, nine runs (eight earned), six walks, and struck out five over 11 innings.

Pete Parise (Palm Beach) has made 11 relief appearances posting a 3.53 ERA.  He's allowed 21 hits, eight runs (four earned), five walks, and struck out eight over 10.2 innings.

Adam Daniels (Lincoln-A.A.) had made six starts posting a 4-2 record and 2.52 ERA.  he's allowed 18 hits, ten runs (nine earned), nine walks, one balk, and struck out 28 over 32.1 innings. He's committed one error in the field.

Ryan Bird (Instructional) has made five starts posting a 2-0 record and 0.93 ERA.  He's allowed 11 hits, three earned runs, six walks, and struck out 18 over 29 innings.  He's committed one error in the field.

Nick Derba (Palm Beach) is batting .164 with two doubles, six RBIs, three runs, 12 total bases, .197 SLG, and .278 OBP in 23 games.  He's committed five errors in the field.


Puerto Rican League


Bryan Anderson (Memphis): Started at catcher and batted 8th.  1-for-4 with one strikeout (looking).  He allowed one stolen base and the runner advanced to third inning on his throwing error.  Anderson threw out the next base runner to end the inning and prevent a score.  (Runners left in scoring position with 2-outs: 1)

P.J. Walters (Memphis), Luis Mateo (Johnson City), and Yadier Molina (St. Louis-December): Did not play for Carolina.


Rigoberto Lugo (Batavia): Did not pitch for Santurce.

Santurce scored four in the fourth and held off Carolina for a 5-1 victory: link
