Amaury Marti a/k/a Amaury "the Body" Cazana, started the year attending the St. Louis Cardinals major league spring training camp and was eventually assigned to Triple-A Memphis. He went on to split playing time during the 2008 regular season on loan with the Mexican League for 52 games and assigned to the Memphis Redbirds for 28 games. He hit .266/.300/.426 (BA/OPB/SLG) for the Redbirds with three home runs and 12 RBIs, after hitting a robust line of .420/.493/.617 in the Mexican League.
Marti finished the year playing in the Triple-A Mexican League in August helping the Diablos Rojos del Mexico (Red Devils) claim their 15th title, and Marti's second. He hit a combined .369 average with seven home runs and 58 RBIs on the year between both of the Triple-A squads.
Following the sun in search of an endless summer of baseball, Marti with a bat and glove in hand, is currently playing baseball in the Dominican Winter League, as he extends his 2008 minor league season to 120 games played to date, including the games in the Mexico and Dominican Leagues.
Marti is hitting .301 (46-for-153) with five home runs and 28 RBIs, to go along with impressive slash stats of .387/.490/877 (OBP/SLG/OPS) for the Tigres Del Licey and is is terrorizing left-handed pitchers, hitting an amazing .409 (9-for-22) with two home runs and nine RBIs to go along with Barry Bond like slash stats of .480/.864/1,344 (OBP/SLG/OPS).
You can debate about how great of a prospect Amaury "the Body" really is, but take it from someone known as "the toe" when he played ball, you can't question his work ethic.
Selected by the Cardinals in the 18th round (556 overall) of the June 2006 first-year-player draft, Marti is still under the control of the St. Louis Cardinals through 2012 and will likely get another invitation to the Cardinals major league spring training camp before being assigned to Triple-A Memphis.
Amaury Marti Cazana, a man for all seasons, coming to a ballpark near you soon.
