The group of invitees features five of the top six ranked Cardinals' players from our Top 40 Cardinals prospect list, headlined by outfielder Colby Rasmus, third baseman Brett Wallace, catcher Bryan Anderson, pitcher Jess Todd and third baseman David Freese.
Todd was the organization's 2008 Pitcher of the Year and our Scout.com Cardinals Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Year, but the organization's Player of the Year, outfielder Daryl Jones, is not among the invited, an acknowledgement of the logjam in the big league outfield.
Wallace, drafted in the first round last June, is the first Cardinals player to be invited to spring camp in his first spring after having been drafted since J.D. Drew in 1999.
Three other players had been previously invited to big league camp when signed to minor league contracts for 2009. They include reliever Ian Ostlund, infielder Joe Thurston and catcher Justin Knoedler.
The players, positions and rank on our prospect list are listed below.

These invitees are in addition to the 35 players currently on the club's 40-man roster.
Top prospects already on the roster and therefore slated to be in camp include outfielder Nick Stavinoha (#30), infielder Tyler Greene (#17), along with pitchers Jason Motte (#7), Mitchell Boggs (#8) and Josh Kinney (#20).
