Justin Fiske lands on the DL

Springfield Cardinals left-handed pitcher Justin Fiske will miss three-to-six weeks with a stress fracture in his throwing elbow. The 24-year-old has posted a 7.34 ERA in 14.1 innings in three outings this season.

Signed out of the independent Northern League, he enjoyed an outstanding 2008 working his way from Quad Cities of the Midwest League to Double-A.

Over three levels last season, he posted a combined record of 4-0 with a 3.26 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 85.2 innings. One of the highlights from last season, was that Fiske was named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week from 7/28-8/3.

For his efforts last season, Fiske was selected to represent the organization in the prestigious Arizona Fall League where he posted an 0-2 won-loss record with a 4.91 ERA (11.0 IP / 6 ER) in 10 relief appearances for the Peoria Saguaros.

In 2007 the former Texas State standout signed undrafted with the Joliet Jackhammers in the independent Northern League before being acquired by the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Fiske made a good first impression, being named by the Birdhouse as the Cardinals Minor League "Reliever of the Month" for August.

No replacement has been named at this time.
