Memphis Suffers Fourth Straight Loss

Eliezer Alfonzo's sixth inning grand slam broke a 2-2 deadlock as the Portland Beavers sent Memphis to their fourth consecutive loss with a 7-2 win.

Alfonzo's drive just eluded the leaping Shane Robinson at the left-center field wall. Robinson was briefly shaken up on the play as the caromed back and hit him in the face. The homer was Alfonzo's seventh of the season.

The home run came off Blake Hawksworth (4-4) who had given up just five hits in the first five innings. Portland loaded the bases on a Jarrett Hoffpauir error, and singles from Emil Brown and Chad Huffman.

Walter Silva (2-1) and Scott Patterson combined to limit the 'Birds to just three hits in the game, equaling a season-low. Silva worked seven innings, allowing two hits while striking out four.

Chad Huffman led an 11-hit attack with three hits while Craig Stansberry homered for the second straight game.

Tyler Greene, in his second game since being optioned from St. Louis, collected two of Memphis' three hits, stole two bases and turned in two sparkling defensive plays.

The four game losing streak is the longest skid of the season. Memphis is now 1-5 on the current road trip.
