Scout Cards Minors Player of the Month: June

Then-Memphis second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir is our Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month for June. He also was named the Cardinals organization Player of the Month.

We agree with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir is the rightful and undisputed Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month for June, winning both the organization award and our recognition, as well.

During June, Hoffpauir, 26, went 33-for-101 (.327) with five doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 20 RBIs, 19 runs, 12 walks, one hit by pitch, one sacrifice fly, six strikeouts, and grounded into two double plays. His on-base percentage of .400 coupled with his slugging percentage of .604 totals an impressive 1.004 OPS for June.

The Southern Mississippi product played in 27 games during the month, helping turn 22 double plays and committing three throwing errors.

On the season, Hoffpauir batted .276 with ten home runs and 31 RBI at Memphis. The right-handed hitter has especially thrived against left-handed pitching, batting .340 (18-for-53) against them this season.

The Cardinals' sixth round (180th overall) pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft was called up to the Major Leagues for the first time on July 1st to help fill a void on the bench left by newly acquired but injured Mark DeRosa. Hoffpauir became the 15th rookie to appear for the Cardinals this year and the ninth to make his Major League debut.

Just three days later, Hoffpauir immediately became a Cardinals fan favorite based on his late-game heroics in Cincinnati.

On Friday, Hoffpauir was called upon to get the eighth inning to Albert Pujols. He drew a critical walk, a specialty of his, and scored ahead of Pujols on the latter's grand slam. In the ninth inning, Hoffpauir added a two-run scoring RBI single for his first Major League hit and RBIs.

Hoffpauir became the first Cardinal to collect a game-winning RBI in his Major League debut since Brian Jordan did so on April 18, 1992 vs. New York. He is just the eighth Cardinal to have a multi-RBI game in his debut and first since Bo Hart had two on June 19, 2003 at Milwaukee.

Congratulations to Jarrett Hoffpauir, our Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month for June.
