Hearne made five starts during the past month posting a 3-0 record and 2.40 ERA. He allowed 22 hits, eight earned runs, 16 walks, hit one batter, allowed one home run, uncorked two wild pitches, and struck out 16 over 30 innings. The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi product also went 1-for-5 with a solo home run, one sacrifice and one strikeout at the plate.
Hearne was also the Texas League Player of the Week for the period of June 22-28. The 25-year-old both pitched and hit his club into the postseason for the second time in franchise history. In a one-game playoff for the North Division first-half title on the road, Hearne stopped Tulsa on one earned run in six innings while adding Springfield's first-ever inside-the-park home run in what became a 10-2 victory.
The Cardinals' 2005 28th round (860th overall) pick has been the most effective starter in the Double-A Springfield rotation since making the jump from the bullpen earlier in the year. On the season, the Texan is 8-1 with a 2.85 ERA. Hearne has fanned 63 and walked 31 in 82 innings for Springfield.
Rumors are swirling that he may be the next to receive a promotion when a rotation spot opens at Triple-A Memphis.
Congratulations to Trey Hearne, our Scout.com Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Month for June.
