To replace Vazquez on the Palm Beach active roster, catcher Charles Cutler has been transferred from the Quad Cities River Bandits of the Midwest League up to the A-Advanced FSL.
Finally, catcher Jack Cawley has been assigned to Class A Quad Cities from the Batavia Muckdogs of the short-season New York-Penn League.
Due to his offensive exploits, Cutler was the only River Bandit named to the Midwest League All-Star Team and captured both the Cardinals organization and our Scout.com Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month in May. That month, the 22-year-old batted .410 with a .527 slugging percentage and a team-high 21 RBI. The left-handed batter hit safely in 22 of his 26 ballgames, recording multiple hits 13 times.
The only question with Cutler is his defense as his bat continues to sparkle. On the season, Cutler's Midwest League line was .351/.410/.455. He added four home runs and 44 RBI in 242 at-bats over 66 games with the River Bandits.
Cutler's .351 average was tops in the MWL and his .410 OBP was tied for fourth in the circuit. His 44 RBI were good for second on the Quad Cities club. Cutler was selected by the Cardinals in the 14th round of the 2008 draft from San Francisco.
Vazquez, 24, is starting his second stint on the disabled list as he also was sidelined for a time in June. In 2009, the right-handed hitter's line is .246/.273/.341 in 138 at-bats over 41 FSL games.
Cawley will be making his first appearance with a full-season club when he joins Quad Cities. The 23-year-old was the Cardinals' 34th round draft pick in 2008 from Pace University.
The right-handed hitter started well with Batavia as his line was .300/.417/.333, though the power was lagging. His time with the Muckdogs was short - only 30 at-bats - but Cawley also impressed when he posted an OPS of .839 last season with Johnson City.
