While the first set of moves revolved around the mid levels of the system, primarily Quad Cities, replenishment of the Johnson City roster was needed. This occurred via a group of five transactions:
RHP Angel De Jesus transferred from GCL Cardinals to Johnson City
RHP Zach Russell transferred from GCL Cardinals to Johnson City
1B Jonathan Rodriguez transferred from GCL Cardinals to Johnson City
3B Kleininger Teran transferred from GCL Cardinals to Johnson City
OF Joey Hage transferred from GCL Cardinals to Johnson City
Not to be left out, the top end of the Cardinals system, the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds, also saw three changes, including an injury and the end of the line for an off-season signing from Japan.
OF Mark Shorey placed on Memphis disabled list due to a left foot contusion
RHR Fernando Salas transferred from Springfield to Memphis
LHP Katsuhiko Maekawa reinstated from Memphis disabled list and unconditionally released
Finally, the Aaron Luna move to Springfield, rumored for the last two days, has been officially confirmed. He takes Salas' spot on the Double-A club's active roster.
2B Aaron Luna transferred from Palm Beach to Springfield
Apparently under the "other duties as assigned" category, the Cardinals athletic trainers at all levels were especially challenged this week in their role of travel arrangers. They came through, reportedly getting all players to their new teams in time to play on schedule.
Also, remember that up-to-date rosters for each level of the Cardinals system with links to each player's profile can be accessed via the "Minor League Rosters" dropdown on the red area just to the right and below the site logo above. In addition, you can get a single-page view of all system rosters via the Cardinals roster matrix at my blog, The Cardinal Nation blog.
